We talk through the products your gut will thank you for

Let's get right into it…

Gut health is exactly what it sounds like – helping your gut stay healthy, easy right? But like with a lot of things, sometimes we can do with a little helping hand. When it comes to our gut, it’s all about getting the balance right, which includes helping to keep the good bacteria in our gut thriving. But everyone’s gut will be different so what might work for one person won’t work for another.

A few problems can fall under the gut health category, including irritable bowel syndrome* (IBS), constipation or diarrhoea. But often they can be helped with a change in lifestyle, like doing more exercise, or changing your diet by adding more fibre to it (think brown rice, pulses, beans, fruit and veg). We’ve got more hints on how to help keep your gut healthy that include useful tips on lifestyle, symptoms and triggers for your gut.

*Make sure you speak to your GP if you think you’ve got signs of IBS.

Why is gut health important?

Our gut’s primary function is to absorb minerals and nutrients, and some parts of our immunity happens in the gut too.

A healthy gut can also help your mind feel great too. This is due to the 100 million neurons that are found in our gut that can potentially influence our brain and mood – ever heard people refer to the gut as your second brain? Now you know why.

We know how tricky it can be to help keep your gut happy, and we want to help you feel good by helping you maintain a good balance in your gut – and our new range of gut health products may be the answer.

Welcome to Boots' Good Gut range

We have eight new and exciting gut health products, all of which are vegan friendly except for Live Friendly Bacteria + Skin & Hair Support which is vegetarian; they’re all gluten-free and are never tested on animals.

So let’s take a look at what these products actually do…

Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria

For when your gut needs a helping hand

This product comes in capsules and is an expert blend of digestive enzymes and calcium to help support normal digestion for good gut health. It’s high strength with 24 billion biotic cultures (remember they are bacteria that can influence the balance of your gut), which are proven to reach the gut alive.

Good Gut Daily Fibre

Helping you get that fibre

Did you know that 90 percent of adults in the UK population don’t get enough fibre? The recommended amount is 30g a day. This little beauty helps to provide up to 20 percent of your daily fibre intake, if you take two sachets a day, and is a blend of aloe vera, L-glutamine, and calcium to help support normal digestion for good gut health.* We’d recommend just taking one a day to begin with, especially if you lack fibre, as increasing fibre in your diet too quickly can lead to excess gas and bloating.

Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria (kids 4+)

Chewable tablets designed with your child in mind

Vitamin C is important in helping to support your little one's immune system all year round, which is why it’s a key ingredient in this product. It also helps contribute to the normal formation of collagen in the body which then maintains healthy skin, gums, teeth, bones and cartilage. The biotic cultures are at a child friendly level in this one.

Good Gut Live Friendly + Skin & Hair Support

For help with your gut, skin & hair all-in-one

With an expert blend of digestive enzymes (protein molecules in cells that help speed up chemical reactions in the body) and calcium* to help support normal digestion for good gut health, you can’t go wrong with this one. The capsules also contain zinc and selenium for healthy skin and hair.

Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria + Women's Health Support

Helping your hormones regulate

These capsules have been formulated with the lactobacillus gasseri, which is a normal part of the vaginal flora (microorganisms that live in the vagina), cranberry extract, and vitamin B6 to help regulate hormonal activity. This guy is extra strength, with about 17.5 billion biotic cultures to help reach the gut alive.

Good Gut Lactase Enzyme

If you have trouble with lactose, these tablets are for you

Lactase is a sugar found in milk – our bodies digest lactose using a digestive enzyme called Lactase, but some people don’t naturally produce enough which causes them discomfort when consuming dairy.** Which is why this has been designed specifically with those who have difficulty digesting lactose in mind, as it helps to improve digestion with its expert blend of digestive enzymes and calcium.*

Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria Max Strength

Top up your good gut bugs

Containing 50 billion (yep, 50 billion!) biotic cultures, these capsules give you a little extra support for when you’re taking a course of antibiotics, or when you’re off on a trip abroad! Oh, and did we mention they’re free of dairy and artificial colours and preservatives – what’s not to love?

Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria + Mental Focus Support

Helping you to focus

Struggling to focus? This one’s for your big day! Containing zinc to help support your brain function, pantothenic acid to help support your mental performance, and billions of biotic cultures in each capsule, proven to reach your gut alive, make the most out of a Monday morning. Take one capsule every day (with plenty of liquid, please) and be ready for whatever the day brings!

Make sure to give your digestive system time to adjust to any changes. If your discomfort persists after following general lifestyle and dietary advice, speak to your GP who may be able to refer you to a healthcare professional with expertise in dietary management. If you’re struggling with bloating, we’ve got some useful tips on how to help beat the bloat.

*Calcium contributes to the normal functioning of digestive enzymes.
**Not suitable for those with a dairy or milk allergy.
