Celebrating our colleague heroes
Boots Opticians is still here for you. #PrescribeKindness
In this time of uncertainty, the selflessness of our Boots Opticians colleagues knows no bounds. We’re incredibly proud of the generosity and compassion they show every day, and it’s their acts of kindness – whether it’s shopping for our elderly neighbours or volunteering to help our NHS – that will carry us through these difficult times.
A helping hand can go a long way, and so to say a huge thank you for their hard work and resilience, we’re shining a light on a handful of our colleagues in Boots Opticians stores doing incredible things.
Our Albion Street store in Leeds has gone above and beyond in so many different ways to help the community, as Jordan Pretty, Practice Manager tells us.
“My store supported an NHS ICU nurse who needed a spare pair of glasses for hygiene reasons, so she could swap them once her shift had finished,” says Jordan.
“The amazing team were quickly able to support her. We got hold of her measurements and her spare pair of glasses were delivered directly to her.”
"As soon as I heard that it was for NHS frontline staff, I didn't hesitate when being asked to volunteer."
Boots has been at the heart of the community for over 170 years, and throughout our history, we have always stepped up to support our communities and our NHS.
We are operating drive-through COVID-19 testing stations, specifically for NHS staff. We’re immensely proud to say that, presently, 90-95 percent of Boots colleagues supporting this project are from Boots Opticians.
“As soon as I heard that it was for NHS frontline staff, I didn’t hesitate when being asked to volunteer,” says Katie Greasley, a Student Dispensing Optician who works in our West Wickham store. “Being part of this team has made me incredibly proud and every day I feel like I’m making a difference.
“The NHS staff that we’re testing risk their lives every single day to save the lives of total strangers. These amazing people are so grateful for our work, we’re thanked by them multiple times a day – and it means the world.”
"I was very keen to volunteer, it's a very good feeling to know that I'm able to do my bit to help at this awful time."
Katie’s thoughts are shared by another of our incredible volunteers, Julia Corrigall, a Dispensing Optician and Assistant Manager in our Sutton store.
“I was very keen to volunteer, it’s a very good feeling to know that I’m able to do my bit to help at this awful time,” she says. “It’s great to be working with different teams from Opticians to Pharmacy to Hearingcare, the training and support we’ve received has been fantastic!
“The NHS staff we’re testing and their families are so grateful, it’s so heart-warming to see their dedication to returning to the frontline.”
The commitment of our colleagues is truly inspirational. Keep safe, keep being kind. We’re all in this together.
