How to use
For your safety and in order to obtain the maximum life from your hot water bottle, please read these instructions carefully before use.
When filling this hot water bottle, do not use boiling water and fill to a maximum of two-thirds capacity or less.

Hold the bottle by the neck in an upright position and fill slowly and carefully to avoid hot water splashing back.

Do not overfill as this might cause the bottle to burst. Expel air from the bottle by lowering carefully onto a flat surface until water appears at the opening.

Screw the stopper sufficiently tight to ensure that there is no leakage. Finger tight should be adequate.

It has become apparent that a small number of users have experienced leaks during use of the Boots hot water bottle. We would like to reassure our customers that all our bottles are individually tested for faults and conform to the current British Standard 1970:2012, which is the global safety standard for hot water bottles.
To prevent the hot water bottle leaking during use it important that the stopper is tightened correctly. To close the stopper sufficiently tight the stopper should be turned until it cannot be turned further without the use of excessive force. Failure to do this can result in leaking from the stopper area during use.
How to tighten the stopper correctly
When the stopper is in position it reaches its biting point and the resistance on turning increases. At this point the stopper should not be considered sufficiently tight as it can leak during use. To secure the stopper properly to prevent leaks it is necessary to tighten the stopper until it comes to a complete stop and cannot be turned further without the use of excessive force.
Hazards and Cautions
Use an adequate cover and avoid prolonged, direct contact with skin to minimise risk of burns.
Under no circumstances should the hot water bottle be used as a cushion and be sat on.
Do not fill using water from the domestic hot water system as this can considerably shorten the lif eof the hot water bottle.
Prevent bottle contact with hot surfaces, oil or grease.
When not in use, drain completely and keep, with the stopper removed, in a cool, dry, dark place.
Prevent exposure to sunlight. Do not place anything on top of the bottle during storage.
Remove from cover and check the bottle and stopper for wear and damage prior to use.

FAQs on how to fill, use and store your hot water bottle safely
Q: How hot should my hot water bottle be?
A: The hot water bottle should feel "nice". It should be hot, but it should never burn. The heat at which a person will feel comfortable using their hot water bottle will depend on their individual sensitivity to heat. It is advised that once your kettle has boiled, the water should be left to cool slightly. It is recommended that the water is left to cool for at least 20 minutes once boiled.
For young children and those with sensitive skin it is recommended that you do not fill the hot water bottle with water that is above 40°C/104°F and ALWAYS use a cover with the hot water bottle.
Q: Why can't I fill my hot water bottle straight from the tap?
A: Filling your hot water bottle straight from the tap or other domestic hot water system can prematurely degrade your hot water bottle. The reason for this is that all the minerals and impurities that are removed from the water through boiling, will build up on the inside of the hot water bottle.
Q: Why shouldn't I use boiling water when filling my bottle?
A: Using water that is still boiling or coming off the boil can be dangerous. Even though the kettle may have flicked off, the water will continue to boil for short period after. If you try to fill your hot water bottle immediately the water is likely to splash back and cause scalding.
Q: What does the guarantee on my hot water bottle cover?
A: Any guarantee that comes with your hot water bottle is against manufacturing faults only. We cannot take liability for the degradation of any hot water bottle caused by misuse or incorrect storage.
Q: I store my hot water bottle in the airing cupboard. Is this ok?
A: Never store your hot water bottle in the airing cupboard as the fluctuation in heat from any boiler or water tank will adversely affect the bottle. You should not store your hot water bottle on or near any source of heat, for example near a radiator, where it will be exposed to sunlight or under the sink where exposure to chemicals can degrade the quality of the bottle.

A: It is advised that you do not use any hot water bottle without a cover. Direct contact of a hot water bottle on skin can cause burns. Young children, elderly people, and those with sensitive skin or reduced feeling should be especially careful.
