Hazards and Cautions

"Normal" body temperature is 37°C, however this can vary from person to person and a child's body temperature can vary between 36°C and 37.5°C. If high temperature persists, or worsens, or other symptoms develop that you are concerned about, seek medical advice. Temperature is not the only indication of illness. If your child seems unwell, whether or not they have a high temperature, seek medical advice. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q. What is the “normal” temperature range and what temperature would be classed as a fever?
A. “Normal” body temperature varies between different people, different times of day and depends on the location the thermometer is used; see below for Guide temperatures.

Normal Temperature#
Temperature (Oral) Temperature (Underarm)*
Child 36oC - 37.5oC 35.5oC - 37.0oC
Adult Around 37oC Around 36.5oC

# based on instructions for use

* underarm readings are generally 0.5oC lower than oral readings

Note: There is no universally agreed “normal” temperature ranges. Depends on information source and site of measurement.

NHS indicates around 37°C for an adult (oral), 36.4°C for a child (underarm).

Heathline.com indicates:
Babies and children - In babies and children, the average body temperature ranges from 36.6°C to 37.2°C.
Adults - Among adults, the average body temperature ranges from 36.1°C to 37.2°C.
Adults over age 65 - In older adults, the average body temperature is lower than 36.2°C.
A fever is regarded as temperature above 38°C

2. Q. What Factors affect “Normal” Body Temperature?
A. Many factors can influence body temperatures and include:

  • A person’s individual metabolism
  • Age (Body temperature is higher in babies and toddlers than in adults. Greater
  • temperature fluctuations occur faster and more often in children. Normal body
  • temperature decreases with age.)
  • Clothing
  • Outside temperature
  • Time of day (Body temperature is lower in the morning and increases throughout the day towards evening.)
  • Activities (Physical and, to a lesser extent, mental activities increase body temperature.)
  • Illness (A raised temperature is used by the body to fight illness.)
  • Some medications (e.g. antipyretics) may result in lower body temperatures

3. Q. What if the thermometer records a temperature below the “normal” temperature range?
A. Turn off, wait 1 minute then repeat the measurement following the instructions carefully; placing thermometer in the correct position and waiting for the extended record time (2 minutes for oral, 5 minutes for under-arm testing), before taking reading. If the temperature recorded is still below “normal” levels and you feel unwell seek medical advice. Note: Do not take temperature after exposure to very hot or very cold conditions or for 30 minutes after eating, drinking or exercising. Before taking temperature, sit/lie down for at least 5 minutes.

4. Q. What if the thermometer records a temperature within the “normal” temperature range but I still feel unwell?
A. Temperature is not the only sign of illness, if the patient feels unwell; even if the temperature recorded is “normal”; you should seek medical advice.

5. Q. How long should I wait to record the temperature?
A. You will get an initial indication of your temperature when the device beeps; but wait for 2 minutes (oral) or 5 minutes (underarm) for an accurate reading.

6. Q. How do I clean the thermometer for use by different people?
A. Clean the thermometer by wiping with a damp cloth (with soap or mild detergent). Wipe dry with a clean soft cloth.

7. Q. The Thermometer indicates “Lo”, “Hi”, “Err” or battery symbol when testing?
A. Refer troubleshooting guide in the instruction manual.

8. Q. I’m unable to obtain a replacement LR41 battery from the Boots Store?
A. We are currently resourcing our LR41 batteries; LR41 batteries may be available at Boots.com, local jewellers or are widely available online.
