Our Sun Safety Partnership

Soltan have proudly partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support as their Official Sun Safety Partner for the second year

Ensuring everyone has access to the information and protection they need to stay safe in the sun. Soltan & Macmillan Cancer Support have teamed up to raise awareness of the importance of sun safety and make sun protection accessible to everyone.

More about our Sun Safety Partnership

Since 2009, the Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support partnership has provided easily accessible specialist cancer information and support to thousands of people on the high street and through virtual services on boots.com. Almost 3,000 Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists (BMIPs) and almost 500 No7 Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors (BMBAs) ensure people living with cancer have access to the specialist cancer information and support they need in their community. The Soltan partnership will also see us roll out enhanced sun safety training to BMIPs.

Our joint campaign will focus on how to protect and prevent sun damage and minimise the risk of skin cancer.

Soltan and Macmillan recommend using a sun cream with factor 30+ and 5-star UVA protection to support in protecting your skin in the sun. Additional measures to reduce risk associated with sun exposure should be taken. We always recommend SPF50 for kids and to avoid being in direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm.

Our partnership pledge

Through the partnership we pledge to:

• Never compromise our 5-star UVA protection

• Stop producing all SPF8 products for adults

• Stop producing all Kids SPF30

• Only show and talk about SPF30+ products in our adverts

• Make sure everyone has access to information about the long and short term damage of sun care

• Ensure our products are affordable for all with fantastic offers and great value

• Focus on education of sun safety, ensuring that teachers and early years providers have the resources to teach children about the importance of being safe in the sun

• Raise awareness of the mole scanning service, operated by Screen Cancer, to help with early detection of skin cancer

• Ensure our Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists (BMIPs) are equipped to advise about sun protection, skin cancer prevention and early detection

What to do if you notice skin changes

If you’re worried about sun damage, moles or pigmented lesions, Boots offer a Mole Scanning Service, operated by Screen Cancer which can assess and identify anything that might be suspicious or make an appointment with your GP. Eligibility criteria and charges apply.

It might help to take a photograph of anything unusual, so you can check for any changes. Remember there are many other skin conditions that aren’t cancer, especially in older people.

It can be more difficult to notice changes if you have darker skin. This is because symptoms of skin cancer may be less obvious than in people with paler skin. If you notice any changes, such as a sore

that does not heal, always see your GP.
