What is The Hygiene Bank?
The Hygiene Bank is a people-powered charity founded by Lizzie Hall that provides hygiene and personal care essentials – from deodorant and hand wash to shower gel and shampoo – to help those facing hygiene poverty.
What is hygiene poverty?
Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford the everyday hygiene or grooming products that most of us take for granted. The reality being that over seven in 10 families are having to make the choice between heating their homes, paying the rent and putting food on the table or their personal hygiene.
Living standards are falling as a result of inflation, which is currently forecast to peak at around 11% (the highest rate for 40 years). So between the cost of living crisis and the families already on benefits or a low disposable income, the struggles of those facing hygiene poverty has been heightened in recent years, with many not having the money to buy basic safety products such as hand soap to keep clean and well.*
How are Boots supporting The Hygiene Bank?
We’re big believers that feeling clean shouldn’t be a luxury or a privilege, which is why we’re joining forces with Unilever and The Hygiene Bank for the third year running with the shared mission of tackling hygiene poverty. So far, this collaboration has supplied The Hygiene Bank with more than 900,000 hygiene essentials.
To keep this momentum going, we’ve introduced our “you buy, we’ll donate” campaign. This means that for any two products bought across selected brands, Boots will donate one to The Hygiene Bank.

Across both men’s and women’s ranges, you can buy any products from the following brands: Simple, Dove, Radox, Shea Moisture, TRESemmé, Sure and Lynx.
What else can I do to help?
Want to make your own donations? You can buy and donate personal care essentials or bring in your unwanted products to drop into our donation points in over 500 Boots stores. So have a rummage around your bathroom or why not pop in an extra toothpaste or hand wash with your shop that you can donate?
Alternatively, you can buy e-vouchers on boots.com of either £3.00, £5.00 or £10.00, where 100% of your donation will go to The Hygiene Bank.

What products are accepted for donations?
The Hygiene Bank collect new, unused and in-date personal care essentials from deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, make-up, nappies, toilet roll, sanitary products and everything in-between.
Once your donations have been collected, The Hygiene Bank redistributes the products to schools, charities and voluntary organisations to help those in need regain their confidence.
