From a new techy in-store skincare diagnostic tool to Y2K-inspired beauty, discover the brands and new products that are going to dominate the year ahead
It’s 2022 and the landscape of the beauty industry is transforming. Following the past couple of years of uncertainty, beauty halls are welcoming us back with open arms to make up for lost time and try, test and, most importantly, play with our favourite cosmetics once again. What joy! The virtual is being replaced with the IRL and Boots is on hand to make the transition go all the more smoothly with in-house expertise and the latest and greatest skincare, haircare and make-up launches to ensure that our baskets are filled to the brim with the most exciting beauty buys.
Over the past 24 months, Boots has continued to increase its amazing beauty offerings, launching 68 cult brands, including Kylie Skin and Kylie Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, Kiehl’s and 17., and redesigning more than 125 premium beauty halls across the UK. What’s more, there’s also more than 1,000 Boots beauty specialists in stores, offering tailored, brand-neutral beauty advice. It’s safe to say we’re onto some pretty big stuff.
But what’s next in beauty? From millennium era-inspired cosmetics to game-changing skincare diagnostics, we take you through what’s going to be big in 2022. It’s certain to provide plenty of must-add-to-basket inspo for the coming months.
When it comes to looking after our skin, times have changed. We’re over reaching for the latest fad. Instead, we’re taking time out to research and choose products that work for our individual needs. And when our social feeds are packed with instant access to dermatologists (there’s 68m views on the TikTok hashtag #DermTok), it's safe to say science-based skincare is a trend that’s here to stay.
Boots are quenching our thirst for skin-centred brands, championing formulas that are all about ‘great skin for life’. Skincare that gets the job done is at the forefront of many of our minds, with ingredients like peptides and ceramides among the ones topping our shopping wishlists. In fact, both have seen a spike in searches on boots.com (54% and 66% respectively). The brands that have seen the biggest growth in sales? La Roche-Posay is up 49%, The Inkey List is up 92% and CeraVe is up 54%, suggesting we just can’t get enough of skin-centred brands.
What’s more, No7 has just launched a free, first-of-its-kind Pro Derm Scan; a game-changing new diagnostics service available in Boots stores nationwide. Using a handheld dermatologist-grade diagnostic device, it analyses skin condition and tone, giving customers the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of their skin so that they can tailor their skincare to their specific needs and concerns. Just the tech we all need to channel our inner skin-tellectual.

A dose of dopamine
We’re predicting that the mood-boosting potential of skincare, bodycare and haircare will ramp up to a whole new level. And who could be mad about that?
These days, we’re moving beyond rituals and the idea that beauty is all about ‘self-care’ and ‘me-time’. Instead, we’re using it as a tool to help inject moments of pleasure into our day-to-day lives. According to Mintel, 45% of 16-34 year olds now indulge in beauty routines as a way to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety*.
So, whether it’s a pop of colour, a touch of texture or a spritz of scent, we’re raising our spirits to joyous levels by savouring the escapism that beauty brings. Here’s to fun, wonder and pure, unadulterated pleasure.

With this in mind, Boots has launched its #AllTogetherBeautiful campaign with a commitment to be the most inclusive beauty hall on the high-street, with the campaign itself aiming to empower and help celebrate the infinite cultural and societal iterations of beauty.
And whether it’s through skincare, haircare or cosmetics, Boots is pledging to be part of the movement that plans to slowly liberate what beauty means. By including brands that tackle “taboos”, from puberty through to menopause, Boots recognises that we’re searching for products as diverse as our lives. Beauty without boundaries, anyone?

When it comes to the credentials behind our cosmetics, it turns out most of us want more than just bang for our buck. Google Trends tells us that we’re all about sustainability with almost nine out of ten shoppers looking for brands that boast a sustainable and ethical ethos as standard. A great example? Bybi, which is launching its first-ever carbon negative beauty product, a luxurious face oil costing just £12.
Boots is also doing its bit. Whether it’s through the launch of plastic-free formats or via the Recycle at Boots scheme, Boots agrees that helping save the planet should be accessible to all. It’s so far recycled over 19 tonnes of empty beauty, health and wellness products and Boots customers have now banked more than one million empties through the scheme.
