Heavy-duty beauty that’s easy on the planet

The sustainable beauty movement is big news right now, and we can all do our bit. You don’t have to completely overhaul your beauty regime in order to ‘go green’ though – there are loads of best-loved sustainable beauty brands out there and chances are, you’ve already got at least one tucked away in your bathroom cabinet.

What does sustainable mean?

If you’ve heard the word ‘sustainable’ knocking around (let’s face it, who hasn’t?) but aren’t sure exactly what it means, you’re not alone. In short, sustainability is the act of protecting our planet.

We can shop sustainably by choosing brands that are making efforts to reduce their carbon footprint, use sustainable or renewable ingredients that are kind to the environment, and package their products in biodegradable, recycled or recyclable materials. Obviously, there’s a whole lot more to it than that, but for now let’s take a look at some of our favourite sustainable beauty buys…

Face Halo Make-up Remover

Green & squeaky clean

Heading up our hit list of beauty  with a conscience is this clever make-up remover pad, which takes all the fuss out of cleaning your face. All you need to do is add water and gently wipe away the day, meaning no product waste and no need for copious amounts of cotton pads. Even better, you can pop it in the washing machine once a week and reuse it time and time again!

BYBI Babe Balm

Your new beauty must-have

BYBI is big news on the sustainable beauty scene, and for good reason. Their mission is to create sustainable skincare products you’ll love, that don’t come with a price tag for our planet. The multipurpose Babe Balm has gained a cult following thanks to its 100 percent natural skin-loving ingredients. Plus it comes in a biodegradable tube made of sugarcane. How’s that for clever?

Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie™ Almond Milk Scrub

Wake up & smell the coffee

Want smooth, soft skin? Look no further. Massage this vegan coffee (not just for your morning cuppa!) scrub over damp skin and let it work its skin-nourishing magic. Free of essential oils, fragrance, dyes and drying alcohols, and housed in recyclable packaging – it’s a win for your skin and the environment.

Botanics Long Handled Body Brush

Brushing up on sustainable beauty

Plant-loving brand Botanics use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood and card for their products and packaging, meaning they’re sustainably and responsibly sourced. This body brush also features natural, plant-based bristles so now you can feel even better as you brush away the stresses and strains of the day.

Eco Warrior Moisturising Hand & Body Bar - Coconut Blend

Plastic ain’t fantastic!

Not only will this coconutty (yum!) hand and body bar leave your skin beautifully cleansed, it’s also making sustainable strides by using RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil and being completely free from plastic. Did we mention it’s 100 percent vegan, too?

Boots Biodegradable Micellar Cleansing Wipes 25s

Kind to your skin & the environment

Biodegradable and plastic-free, these soothing micellar wipes are here to cleanse and tone your skin whilst sweeping away any traces of make-up, dirt and impurities. Infused with a splash of calming aloe vera, they’re sure to leave your skin feeling clean, soft and refreshed. Just remember to bin them instead of flushing them once you’re done.

sunny razor – the pink one

Here to shave the day

Like sunny days, this sunny razor – in a universally bathroom flattering pink – feels lush on your legs. Better still, all blades are replaceable and recyclable so you can ditch your single-use razors for good.
