L'Oréal reveal their genius tips to get salon-worthy hair from home
Whether you want to cover pesky roots or diffuse that frizz, L'Oréal have you covered. Here’s how to keep those locks in tip-top condition at home...
How do I help my hair grow?
The longer your hair gets, the more it goes through and the more damaged it becomes (boo!). Split ends appear and you feel like you need to trim your tips.
To help achieve your long hair goals, choose products that protect your hair and reinforce your length. We’d recommend using Elvive Dream Lengths No Haircut Cream – this nourishing formula helps to reduce the appearance of split ends and reduce breakage from brushing to help save your last few centimetres.
How much shampoo do I really need to use?
This depends on the length and thickness of your hair. One teaspoon for short hair, two teaspoons for medium length hair and three teaspoons for long hair is recommended.
How often should I wash my hair?
This really depends on your hair type and lifestyle. Thicker, dryer hair will need washing less frequently (up to three times a week), whilst thinner, oilier hair will need washing more frequently (up to once a day). If you exercise or style your hair regularly you may also need to wash your hair more often.
How can I stop my hair from frizzing?
Start by using a shampoo and conditioner with anti-frizz properties, such as our Ultimate Blends Smoothing Coconut Hair Food Shampoo and Ultimate Blends Smoothing Coconut Hair Food Conditioner for smoother, shinier, healthy-looking hair.
This range also has an anti-frizz 3 in 1 Hair Mask which can be applied as a leave-in conditioner. Our top tip is to apply this on wet or dry hair and leave in to smooth and tame flyaways!
If you prefer a serum to a mask, use an anti-frizz leave-in treatment after washing your hair such as Elvive Dream Lengths Frizz Killer Serum. It slays frizz for up to 24 hours with 230 degrees Celsius heat protection for sleek glossy tresses all day long. Apply one or two pumps on damp hair before blow-drying to smooth frizz and use in-between washes on dry hair to tame flyaways.
What does a hair mask do?
Hair masks intensely nourish and condition your hair after using shampoo and conditioner.
What are the benefits of using a hair mask?
There are three ways to enjoy our hair masks – as a conditioner, a mask or as a leave in.
Our 100 percent vegan masks are packed full of goodness and leave locks with intense nourishment and no weigh-down.
How can I help cover my greys?
If you’re looking for a permanent solution to cover greys, Nutrisse permanent hair dye nourishes while colouring thanks to its unique colour crème, which delivers natural-looking colour with up to 100 percent grey coverage.
If you’re just looking to cover those first greys, and are looking for a lower commitment dye, why not try a semi-permanent solution? Casting Crème Gloss is the UK’s No.1 ‘No Ammonia’ semi-permanent hair colour which helps conceal those first greys, and gives your hair ultra-glossy shimmering tones.** A great product for your entry into hair dying!
If you don’t want to apply colour all over the hair, but want to perfectly cover grey roots or hair growth to match your existing hair colour, you can just apply a root touch up product. Magic Retouch gives a natural-looking result without the commitment – it washes out with shampoo and works for all hair types and is available in nine shades. It’s ideal for those who want to conceal their roots between salon appointments, at hair home dyeing sessions or simply want to cover the odd grey strand.
How often should I dye my hair?
This really depends on the type of colouring you go for. If you’re using permanent hair colour, you’ll start seeing your roots grow out between four to six weeks after dyeing so you’ll need to do a root touch up. If you want to freshen up your lengths whilst touching up your roots, simply apply the colour to your lengths 10 minutes before washing.
If you use semi-permanent hair dye, these fade depending on how often you wash your hair. Casting Crème Gloss colour lasts up to 28 shampoos, so after this time you’ll need to reapply a colour.
How can I help keep my hair colour looking vibrant?
Avoid washing your hair too often, and when you do, choose a range designed specifically for coloured hair, such as Elvive Colour Protect – Britain’s No.1 for coloured hair and protecting colour radiance for up to 10 weeks.^
For extra nourishment, use deeply restorative masks such as Ultimate Blends Colour Illuminating Hair Food 3-in-1 Goji Hair Mask.
Avoid applying excessive heat on the hair, and if you have to then ensure you use a heat protector before, such as Elvive Frizz Killer Serum with 230 degrees Celsius heat protection.
For blonde, silver, and highlighted or bleached brunette hair, we recommend using a purple shampoo as part of your hair care routine once a week. The Elvive Colour Protect Purple range (shampoo, conditioner and mask), neutralise brassy tones from the first wash, keeping hair looking bright and icy-cool. Use this range alongside your regular Elvive Colour Protect routine.
If you don’t want to change your colour but want to ensure ultra-glossy high intensity shimmering tones, you could dye your hair every four to six weeks with a semi-permanent colour such as Casting Crème Gloss by L’Oréal Paris.
