ESSILOR® STELLEST® LENSES

Don’t just correct myopia, choose to control it

Discover Essilor® Stellest® lenses: Essilor®’s latest innovation to slow down myopia progression in children

Let them see what’s possible

Did you know that 80% of what children learn occurs through vision?1 With modern lifestyles, it’s more important now than ever to recognise the signs of myopia and give children the best chance of seeing the world clearly.

This is why the Essilor® Stellest® lens has been designed. Essilor® Stellest® lenses slow down myopia progression by 67% on average, compared to single vision lenses, when worn 12 hours a day, every day.2

It’s time to focus on myopia

To understand how the lenses work, let’s break down what myopia is. Simply put, myopia, also known as short-sightedness, is a common eye condition in which objects in the distance appear blurred. This typically develops in children of school-going age and tends to worsen every year until adulthood.3

However, more children are becoming myopic at a younger age, which has been associated with changes in lifestyle, with children now spending less time outdoors and more time indoors doing near work activities, such as on tablets or reading books.4

The younger a child develops myopia, the more likely this will progress to high myopia as they grow older.5

What causes myopia?

Myopia usually occurs when the eyes grow slightly too long – this means the distance between the cornea (the transparent layer at the front of the eye) and the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) are too far apart.

Myopia can also run in families. If one parent has myopia, the child’s risk for myopia can be two times greater. If both parents are short-sighted, the child’s risk for myopia can be five times greater.6

How do Essilor® Stellest® lenses work?

Essilor® Stellest® lenses consist of a smart combination that has a dual benefit:
STEP ONE: Correct with The Single Vision Zone

The single vision zone delivers sharp vision by perfectly focusing light on the retina. The lens design ensures a large prescription zone which brings clear vision in all gaze directions.

STEP TWO: Control with H.A.L.T.* Technology

Using the unique constellation of 1,021 invisible** lenslets spread on 11 rings, it is designed to create a volume of non-focused light in front of the retina and following its shape. This slows down eye elongation.

Myopia can get worse until the eye has stopped growing, which is usually around early adulthood.7 The H.A.L.T.* technology within Essilor® Stellest® lenses create a volume of non-focused light in front of the retina and following its shape. This helps slow down eye elongation, and therefore myopia progression.

A clearer future is in sight

A state-of-the-art two-year clinical trial demonstrated strong evidence of Stellest® lenses efficacy:

• Essilor® Stellest® lenses slow down myopia progression by 67% on average. Compared to single vision lenses, when worn 12 hours a day.2

Innovative materials

Essilor® Stellest® lenses are aesthetic, and safe for your child. The genius lens is made of a constellation of invisible** lenslets and uses Crizal® coating. This is an Essilor® lens coating that acts as an invisible shield of protection.

Combined with Essilor® Stellest® lenses, Crizal® protects the lenses from everyday factors such as reflections, scratches, smudges, dust and water, as well as helping to protect the eyes from the sun’s UV rays.

So you can rest assured knowing your child can go about their day-today activities without damaging their lenses.
