The NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

The NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) allows most GPs in England to send prescriptions electronically to a nominated pharmacy of your choice.

The NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) allows most GPs in England to send prescriptions electronically to a nominated pharmacy of your choice. With EPS, there's no paper prescription, so you won't have to worry about keeping track of bits of paper.

Step 1: Find which store you would like your prescription sent to

Your chosen pharmacy may be closest to your home or work, or you can check if there are any local midnight pharmacies or pharmacies with extended opening hours. Check our store locator to help you choose a pharmacy that is most convenient for you.

Step 2: Contact Boots or your GP surgery to nominate your selected pharmacy

Tell the Boots pharmacy team that you'd like your prescriptions sent there (you can do this at anytime, with or without a prescription), or let your GP surgery know which Boots pharmacy you'd like your prescriptions sent to.

Step 3: Whether it’s a one-off or repeat prescription, it will be sent straight to Boots

Order your repeat prescription and it will be electronically sent to your chosen Boots pharmacy.

We can let you know when it's ready to collect with our free text messaging service.

This service will mean you don't have to collect your paper prescriptions from your GP's surgery. You may find this service particularly beneficial if you order a regular repeat prescription.

Your GP or pharmacist will be able to let you know if this service is available.

The service can be used for:

• Repeat NHS prescriptions in England

• One-off NHS prescriptions in England

The service cannot be used for:

• Private prescriptions, including veterinary prescriptions

• This service is not currently available in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland

• NHS dental prescriptions

Once you've nominated your chosen pharmacy, re-order your repeat prescription as usual and the GP surgery will send it to Boots. Make sure you continue to attend any medicine reviews required by your GP.

The NHS EPS service is available at most GP surgeries and pharmacies in England, with many people already signed up to it.

Your GP surgery or pharmacist will be able to tell you if your surgery offers the service.

All Boots pharmacies in England are already set up to receive electronic prescriptions.

If your GP isn't offering this service yet, simply continue to take your paper prescription to your Boots pharmacy.

If you've moved house, or want to change the Boots store that your electronic prescriptions go to, simply ask in store or your GP for your nomination to be changed.

Yes - with their consent, you can sign up for your partner, children, other family members, or friends. Just ask in store about the option to choose a pharmacy on behalf of someone else.

If you have any further questions, please ask a member of your local Boots pharmacy team.
