THE HAIR DRYER RE-THOUGHT
The team at Dyson started with the problem. Hair dryers with big bulky motors have to put them in the head – it’s the only place they’ll fit. That’s why hair dryer design hasn’t changed since the 1960s.
Dyson knew that there had to be a better way and set about creating a high-speed digital motor, powerful enough to move over 13 litres of air every second, yet no wider than 27mm (1.06 inches). So small, in fact, that we could turn conventional engineering on its head. But this was just the beginning. To truly rethink the hair dryer, we knew we had to understand hair inside out.
It started with the construction of their own hair laboratory within the Research and Development facility in Malmesbury, UK (Dyson HQ). The equipment needed didn’t exist – so they designed and built it. Industry test methods didn’t go far enough – so they went further. They bought £30,000 worth of natural hair tresses and created a worldwide shortage in the process.
After 50 months of research, design and development, the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer was created.
INTELLIGENT HEAT CONTROL FOR SHINE
The exit airflow temperature is measured 20 times a second, and regulated by a microprocessor. Heat is controlled intelligently, helping to prevent extreme heat damage.
ENGINEERED FOR BALANCE
It’s the only manufactured hair dryer with the motor in the handle, not the head. This has allowed us to completely rethink its layout and engineer it for balance.
The only hair dryer with magnetic attachments for easy fitting and rotation.
The Dyson digital motor V9 is on average six times faster and one third the weight and size of other hair dryer motors. And with Air Multiplier™ technology, airflow is amplified by three times.
The Dyson Smoothing nozzle has been engineered to produce gentle, low-velocity airflow that dries and styles at the same time.
