Planning to have a baby?

Clearblue ovulation tests are proven to help you get pregnant*

Planning to have a baby is one of the most exciting times in a couple’s life

Once you’ve decided to have a baby, it’s quite natural to feel impatient for it to happen soon. However, it’s quite normal for it to take up to a year for a couple under 35 and in good health to conceive. You may be interested to know that one of the key reasons getting pregnant can take longer than expected is couples mistiming intercourse – one in two couples may be trying to conceive at the wrong time.**

There are only a few days in each cycle when it’s possible to get pregnant so it’s important to know your most fertile days. In each cycle an egg is released from one of your ovaries (ovulation) and estrogen rises in your body in the days before the surge of luteinising hormone (LH). This rise indicates the onset of your high fertility days. Your peak fertile days coincide with the LH surge, which happens around 24-36 hours before ovulation.

Ovulation tests detect the rise of these hormones in urine. Menstrual cycles not only vary between women, but can also vary from cycle to cycle, so ovulation tests can take the guess work out of identifying your most fertile time to get pregnant.

When trying for a baby, it’s likely you’re having more sex. Using a lubricant can provide comfort, but in vitro studies show that ordinary lubricants can affect sperm motility. Remember to choose a fertility friendly lubricant if you’re trying to get pregnant.

Ready to try for a baby?

In every cycle there are only a few days when you can get pregnant, so having sex on these days is important if you’re trying to conceive. Every woman is different, so knowing in advance when your personal fertile days are can make all the difference.

Ovulation tests can accurately tell you when you are most likely to conceive if you have intercourse and can help you get pregnant faster. They work by detecting the rise in hormones just before you release an egg, so you know when you should have sex to get pregnant.

Estrogen rises in the days before ovulation when your body is preparing for conception and when sperm can survive in the ‘sperm friendly environment’. A surge in luteinising hormone (LH) occurs 24-36 hours before ovulation (when an egg is released from your ovary) and this indicates the onset of your two most fertile days.

Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test typically identifies four or more fertile days.† It tracks two key fertility hormones, estrogen and LH to identify your high and peak fertility days so you can plan ahead and have more opportunities to get pregnant. It’s easy to use, with clear ‘smiley face’ digital results and is over 99% accurate at detecting the LH surge.

Think you might be pregnant?

The best way to know whether you’re pregnant or not is to take a pregnancy test. If you think you might be pregnant, you can now use some tests as early as six days before your missed period, so no need to wait to find out.

Clearblue Digital Ultra Early Pregnancy Test is our most sensitive digital pregnancy test. It detects the pregnancy hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), with a sensitivity of 10mlU/ml.

Test from six days before your missed period (five days before you expect your period). 78% of pregnancies can be detected six days before your missed period, 93% of pregnancies five days before and over 99% from four days before your missed period.

Clearblue Digital Ultra Early Pregnancy Tests are easy to use and have a unique stop light which flashes to tell you when you’ve sampled enough urine. They give ultra clear results displayed as words – ‘Pregnant’ or ‘Not Pregnant’ – and are over 99% accurate at detecting pregnancy from the day you expect your period.
