CHOOSING THE RIGHT BABY CAR SEAT

When you’re thinking about which car seat to buy, you may feel overwhelmed.

It’s a legal requirement for your child to be seated in a car seat, but which one?

Firstly, your child must travel in a car seat that is the appropriate size for them. There are currently two different safety legislations for car seats, R44/04 and i-Size (R129). i-Size is the more recent and uses the length (or height) to classify car seats, whereas the older legislation, R44/04 uses weight to divide the car seats into groups.

Both safety regulations have passed stringent testing, but i-Size offers improved protection through more sophisticated performance criteria, testing side impact and mandatory rearward-facing travel up to 15 months.

The next step is to consider how the car seat will fit in your car. Does your car have ISOFIX points? If so, it’s easy to connect the seat or base (with an infant carrier) with these connectors directly to your car’s chassis. Alternatively, you can use the car seat belt.

If you choose to place your baby or toddler in the rearward-facing position, some of our i-Size seats such as Mica have extended rearward-facing, allowing your child to travel in this position until the age of 4 and have a handy 360° rotation. Others such as our innovative Coral have a removable and lightweight soft carrier for ergonomic carrying.
