The Hygiene Bank
"We're driven by the belief that everyone deserves to feel clean. Access to hygiene basics is not a luxury or a privilege, it's a basic human right"
Boots & The Hygiene Bank
There are approximately 4.2 million adults living in hygiene poverty in the UK. Hygiene poverty is being unable to afford the everyday essentials that most of us take for granted such as shampoo, deodorant, and laundry detergent. It has a negative impact on people's school, work and social lives. Boots is The Hygiene Bank's founding partner and official retail partner, with donation points in over 500 stores. Since joining forces in 2020, we have been working together to raise awareness of hygiene poverty and help close the hygiene poverty gap.
You donate = we donate
For every kilogram of product donated in a Boots store, we donate one full-sized product to The Hygiene Bank. Since the start of our partnership, we've donated over 1.5 million products to those living in hygiene poverty, with the charity directly supporting more than 1200 community organisations and projects across the UK.

Hygiene poverty can have a serious impact on children’s oral health, so this September, to help send children back to school with healthy smiles, we are donating 175,000 toothbrushes and toothpastes to The Hygiene Bank, to distribute to schools and projects that support children across the UK. You can help make our donation go further by donating any in-date and unused children’s dental products from home or purchased in-store, via your nearest Boots donation point. You can also find a range of educational resources to look after your children’s oral health on the Boots Health Hub. As well as dental products, you can also donate the beauty and personal care items below:
What can I donate?
How Boots & The Hygiene Bank support schools
“Hygiene poverty can have a knock-on effect on children’s confidence, which is one of the foundations to success at school”
We want to help young people understand the importance of hygiene & how they can support people living in hygiene poverty in their own communities. We’ve worked alongside The Hygiene Bank to design educational resources for parents & teachers to help young people.
Download our educational resources for primary and secondary school pupils to help keep the conversation around hygiene poverty going. You can find your nearest in-store donation point here. All donations of new, unused and in-date personal care and household cleaning essentials including deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, make-up, nappies, toilet roll, laundry detergent and surface cleaner are welcome.
