What is double cleansing?

Find out why you should put in a double shift when it comes to cleansing

Gone are the days when taking off your make-up meant a quick flick round with a face wipe (we’ve all been there). These days it’s all about being skin savvy when it comes to cleansing and putting in the effort for results that are twice as nice.

Which is where double cleansing comes in. Yep, you guessed it, it’s cleansing – twice. Because when it comes to taking off your make-up, the lazy girl’s guide to beauty just isn’t going to cut it. It’s time to melt away make-up and prep your skin for those night-time lotions and potions to work their magic.

The benefits of double cleansing

It might sound like a faff, but double cleansing could leave your skin looking brighter, potentially less prone to breakouts and help give it a fighting chance against the ageing process.

Plus, when you think about how long you spend applying your make-up, it makes sense to invest a bit of time taking it off at the end of the day too. And with a few tips and tricks of the trade, double cleansing can be super easy. You can thank us later.

How to double cleanse

When it comes to squeaky-clean skin, beauty experts swear by the double cleanse.

“Double cleansing is the process of using two cleansing steps that essentially leaves skin immaculately clean and hydrated,” says Amanda Bell, Global Director of Education and Artistry for Pixi.

“The first cleanse should be an oil-based or balm cleanser which cuts through pigment, dirt, and sunscreen, lifting the surface dirt. The second cleanse should leave skin balanced and hydrated.”

Ready to do the double? Take your favourite oil-based cleanser and sweep away the day. Oil-based cleansers are great for lifting away dirt, grime, make-up and sunscreen.

Next, grab a water-based cleanser and get ready to clean deep down into your pores. Take your time to really massage it into your skin before you rinse it off with lukewarm water. Pat your skin dry with your favourite fluffy towel and you’re all set to get started with your night-time skincare regime.
