How can Boots help with my prescription?

We can help you manage your prescriptions in these times of need, so you can keep on top of your medication

Due to the current health pandemic and government restrictions, it can become difficult to manage your prescriptions and get hold of your medicines. We’ve put together some advice to help you manage your prescriptions and get your medication on time.

Can I still pick up a prescription in store?

Yes, you can still visit a pharmacy to get your prescription so long as you don’t have symptoms of COVID-19 (coronavirus). If you or anyone in your household or support bubble has a high temperature, a new continuous cough or loss or change in sense of taste or smell, please don’t come into store. Instead, stay at home and follow your government guidance.

When you visit our stores, remember to practise social distancing rules and stay two metres (three steps) away from people. Please also wear a face covering if you aren’t exempt from wearing one. Anti-bacterial hand gel is available for you to use when you enter and leave our stores. You may also see tape on the floor to show you where you can stand – this is for your safety and the safety of our staff.

Can I get my prescription online?

If you have a repeat prescription, you can use our Free Online NHS Repeat Prescription Service* to order your medicines online or via the Boots app. Your medicines will be delivered to your home for free, via Royal Mail tracked delivery. It’s easy to sign up:

• Go to or download the Boots app. You can order for yourself or for someone else

• Tell us who your GP is and what medication you need

We’re experiencing an increase in demand for this service. But don’t worry, our online pharmacy team is working hard with participating GPs, Royal Mail and our store teams to help ensure you get your prescriptions on time. Please allow plenty of time to order your prescription and only order what you need. We’ll also email you to let you know when your order has been dispatched or is ready to collect. Don’t forget, once we’ve dispatched your delivery, you can track its status online via Royal Mail. Free home delivery is available in England only. In-store collection is available in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Can friends & family help with my prescription?

You can ask a friend, neighbour or a family member to help manage your prescription and collect your medicines for you. They’ll need your name and address and, in some cases, their ID.

Your friends and family can also support you by using the Boots Free Online NHS Repeat Prescription Service*, to order your repeat NHS prescription on your behalf. Delivery for this service is free.

Can my local Boots store deliver my prescription?

If you can’t access your medicines or don’t have anyone who can support you, our stores are able to provide a delivery service for you. Contact your local Boots Pharmacy to discuss what delivery options are available to you.

How can I help my pharmacy team?

The COVID-19 pandemic is putting a big demand on pharmacy and healthcare services across the country. There are things you can do to help your pharmacy team:

• Only order the medicines you need, as stockpiling can mean others won’t have access to medicines they need

• Try not to contact your pharmacy team by phone unless it’s urgent

• If you would like us to send you a text message once your prescription is ready, sign up to our free Text Message Service. Provide the pharmacy with your mobile number when you're in store next, and they'll send you a text message when your prescription is ready to collect

• If you have a repeat NHS prescription, please allow plenty of time to order your next one
