How to order your NHS repeat prescriptions

Find out more about the different ways to order your repeat NHS prescriptions, and the Boots services available to help you manage your medicines

If you have a long-term health condition, like diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, you’ll probably have a repeat prescription from your GP for your regular medication. If you have a repeat prescription it means that you can order medication without having to book an appointment and see your GP every time you need more. Although it is still important to see your GP for your regular, scheduled reviews.

Ordering your NHS repeat prescriptions

In Person

Hand in the white slip (which is the tear-off part of your repeat prescription) at your GP or pharmacy if you’ve signed up for the pharmacy’s repeat prescription service. This slip, sometimes called the repeat re-order form, shows the list of medicines that you can order. You simply need to tick the items on the list you need to re-order and hand this slip in.

If your GP is based in England and you would like your prescription to be sent from your GP electronically sign up to Electronic prescription service and nominate a pharmacy. Remember when ordering to only order what you need.

By Phone

Depending on where you live, you may be able to order your repeat prescription by phone. In some parts of the UK there are services, like the Prescription Medicine Ordering Line (MOL) and Prescription Ordering Direct (POD). Chat with your GP or pharmacy team to see whether this is an option for you.

Often the easiest way to manage your repeat prescription is online. The Boots Free Online NHS Repeat Prescription Service* allows you to order your prescriptions online or via the Boots app.

By Post

Tick the items on your repeat re-order slip that you want to reorder and send this off by post to either your GP surgery or your nominated pharmacy, depending on where you signed up. If you don’t have your slip, contact your GP practice and they’ll be able to help.
