Potassium is a mineral component, the right amount of which is necessary for the proper functioning of the body. It occurs in all its tissues [1] and is responsible for a number of processes taking place in the organs. It affects, among others, proper muscle function, supports maintenance of normal blood pressure and also supports the functioning of the nervous system. 



Potassium should be supplied with the diet. It can be found in many foods, both plant and meat. The main sources of this mineral are fruits and vegetables - e.g. potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, spinach, bananas, apples and dried apricots and plums. It can also be easily supplemented by eating beans or legumes (e.g. beans and lentils), dairy products (e.g. yoghurt), fish, meat and nuts. Consumed potassium is absorbed mainly in the small intestine in about 90%, which makes it relatively easy to maintain its proper concentration in cells.
