Smoky eye, dramatic lashes... you can have it all!

Made the switch from glasses to contacts and worried that you can’t wear your fave make-up anymore? Don’t stress.

Although wearing make-up with contact lenses can feel a bit daunting, we’ve got top tips to help beat eye irritation without sacrificing the look you want.

Wash your hands

First things first, make sure your hands are squeaky clean and bone dry before applying your contact lenses – you know the drill!

Lenses first

To help avoid eye infections (nobody wants that), always remember to put your lenses in before you apply make-up, and take them out before you remove it. Got it?

Use the right products

Try to steer clear of make-up products that have oil in them. If you paid attention in science (we’re sure you did), you’ll remember that oil and water don’t mix, so if any gets in your eyes it could result in cloudy lenses – not ideal!

Another thing to avoid? Mascaras that contain fibres – these can clump and fall into your eyes which could cause an infection. We’d recommend trying Clinique’s High Impact Waterproof Mascara – safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. Perfect.

Finally, try to avoid loose powder products – these can crumble throughout the day and irritate your eyes. Instead, opt for creams or liquids. Revlon’s ColorStay Crème Eye Shadow will be great for a subtle style.

Stay away from your waterline

Try to avoid getting any make-up on your waterline (AKA the inner lash line) – this can block the natural oil glands that help to keep your eyes hydrated.

The good news? You can still nail that smoky eye by applying your eyeliner to the outer part of your lids. Phew!

Replace your make-up regularly

How long have you been hoarding that mascara?

It may be painful to toss a mascara that seems perfectly fine, but, trust us, expired make-up is a breeding ground for bacteria and can increase your risk of an eye infection.

Make sure you replace anything that comes into contact with your eyes every two to three months. Why not take it as a perfect excuse to treat yourself to some newbies?
