MenB Vaccination Service

Meningitis can affect anybody, but it’s most common in younger children, teenagers and young adults aged between 15 and 24^†. That’s because these groups tend to be in regular close contact at nursery, school and university, which leads to the spreading of bacteria. Meningitis can develop very quickly so it’s important to recognise the signs and symptoms.

The Boots MenB Vaccination Service is a non-NHS service for adults and children aged two and over*. A full course consists of two doses of a vaccine called Bexsero, given a minimum of four weeks apart. Please speak to your GP about the vaccination if your child is aged under 24 months.

It’s estimated that the vaccine protects against almost nine in every 10 types of meningococcal group B bacteria circulating in the UK^††.

Each vaccination will be given in the upper arm so it’s helpful for you or your child to wear short sleeves or loose sleeves that can be rolled up.

The NHS vaccinates young children against MenB, but it only started doing so in September 2015 for babies born on or after 1 July 2015. Those who haven’t been vaccinated, particularly children and young adults, may benefit from having the vaccination privately at Boots.

The Boots MenB Vaccination Service doesn’t replace the need for the free NHS MenACWY vaccination currently offered to teenagers^¶.

To enable us to give you the best and most appropriate care and advice, we collect your personal data such as name, address and date of birth, we also collect your more sensitive personal data regarding your health for the purposes of ensuring the service we provide is appropriate for you.

We may also process your personal data for carefully considered and specific purposes which are in our interest and enable us to enhance the services we provide, but which we believe also benefit our customers. Your personal data will be stored for as long as necessary unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

We may share your personal information across Boots services such as Boots Pharmacy and with other companies that provide services on our behalf but we assure you that Boots will never sell your personal data. We are committed to safeguarding your privacy and keeping your personal data safe and secure is our top priority.
