Why use Braun IPL hair removal at home?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It removes hair by emitting a beam of light that heats up and is absorbed by the hair follicle, preventing regrowth over time. Considered by many to be the most effective technique for home hair removal, IPL has safely and painlessly simplified beauty regimes, removing the need for regular salon appointments.
The safest IPL thanks to SensoAdaptTM
Silk-expert Pro 5 continuously reads skin tone 80x per second, and automatically adapts the light intensity to your skin, for a perfect balance between safety and efficiency. Braun IPL is dermatologically accredited as skin safe by the Skin Health Alliance.

Skin tone & hair type suitability FAQs
Why use IPL?
IPL is a popular hair removal treatment. You can do this type of laser hair removal at home after shaving and it reduces the amount of hair that grows back. Braun IPL offers a permanent, visible reduction of hair. Suitable for all genders, it can be used on the face, legs, bikini line & more. Safe, effective, and gentle on the skin, Braun’s IPL offers a home alternative to salon laser hair removal.
How IPL works
IPL stands for ‘intense pulsed light’. It’s a method of reducing hair growth by using beams of light to interact with hair follicles. You do IPL after shaving because the beams of light target the melanin in your hair root – which can only be reached when the hair strands are short. After the follicle is destroyed, the hair root remains empty. However, you can’t target every follicle of hair in one session – multiple treatments are required to achieve permanent reduction of hair. IPL isn’t suitable for certain hair colours or tones of skin. For example, very blonde hair does not contain enough melanin for the IPL device to work properly. On the other hand, very dark skin has more melanin, meaning the IPL won’t be able to effectively reach the hair root.

How to use IPL products
Remember you’ll need to shave around 24 hours before you use IPL laser hair removal. You can also shave right before. To work the IPL device, place the nozzle in contact with the skin on the area you’re treating. Select the standard head or the precision head depending on the size of the area you wish to treat. For sensitive areas or if it’s your first time, you can use the gentle or extra gentle mode on the Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 IPL.
