Let’s get clearer on skin

All you need to know from experts in clearer skin

Let’s help clear it up

When it comes to spots and acne, there’s a lot of misconception, stigma and misinformation out there.

Getting your head round knowing what’s what (and what’s not) can help you find the things that work for you – and avoid anything that may make the situation worse.

Myth: Acne is caused by specific foods

So far, research into links between acne and food reveals little conclusive evidence. For a small select group of sufferers, reducing sugar or dairy may be of benefit but this approach is unlikely to help everyone who has acne.

Myth: Face masks clear acne

Most cosmetic face masks won’t clear acne. Whilst they may calm irritated skin, they won’t fight the underlying spot causing bacteria – the real culprit behind breakouts.

Myth: Going make-up free clears acne

Many people will go make-up free when they have breakouts to keep their pores clear. First, makeup isn’t actually a cause of acne and not all makeup blocks pores. The cause of spots erupting is bacteriain the pores- and going makeup free won’t help fight spot causing bacteria.

It’s important to know that some other skin conditions may look like acne, but will need a different treatment approach.

If your acne is not improving no matter what you try, or you feel it is getting worse, please do seek advice from a healthcare professional or visit the Boots Online Doctor. Under-treatment of some forms of acne can increase the risk of scarring.
