Read our guide to the different types of brows and arm yourself with some expert tips to getting the brow shape that'll flatter your face.
Want a flattering shape that frames your eyes? Take a cue from Beyoncé. Her shape is true to her natural brows but the arch is softly defined. Reckon this is the shape for you? With an expert's helping hand, it can be yours.
Boots recently introduced beauty boutiques to a lucky few Boots stores*, which offer beauty treatments such as threading. "Threading allows you to give perfect definition every time," says our in-store beauty expert. "We use a unique method which enables every client's eyebrows to be tailored to their face and complement their own eye shape."
Once you've got your perfect shape, maintain it at home or revisit the store every two to four weeks for a tidy-up.
Brow tip:
Use a brow gel to keep the hairs in place and looking polished between visits.
This shape might seem like it doesn't have an arch at first, but it definitely does. "Everyone has a natural arch, but some have a higher brow bone and therefore it can be a little bit more difficult to see it," says our eyebrow expert.
Full brows have been all over runways for a while now so, if you're blessed with them, use them. However, if you want to go thinner, use your trusty tweezers. It's easy to get too tweezer-happy but, if you follow a few simple ground rules, you won't end up with misshapen brows.
Your brows should start above the inner corner of your eyes and shouldn't end abruptly. "Keep the length as much as you can," says Louise Constad, a make up artist who has worked with Sophie Ellis Bextor and Juliet Binoche. Single out stray hairs as they appear. Make up expert Rachel Wood explains, "It's good to tweeze a few strays in between a big tidy-up to keep your brows looking neat and clean all the time."
Brow tip:
Carefully trim straggly ends with grooming scissors to help keep the shape clean.
This shape harks back to the era of Hollywood greats like Sophia Loren. For thicker brows, try threading to get the sharp lines of this style. For thinner brows, it's all about defining and exaggerating your natural brows, so slowly build up to the shape. Try using a firm angled brush with a brow powder to even out colour and to disguise sparse growth.
Louise says, "Always use a shade lighter than your brow hair. If you prefer to use a pencil, make sure it's always kept sharp. Make little and light upward strokes so it looks like hair." Be sure to follow the natural line of your brows, too.
Brow tip:
Been a bit heavy-handed? "Use a strong eyebrow brush and brush away as this will help lift excess powder," suggests Louise.
If you're a thin-browed lady, count yourself lucky as you've got the most low-maintenance type. "If you have naturally thin eyebrows, it's better to keep them sharp and clean underneath rather than over-plucking," says Rachel. Don't force an arch as it can end up looking harsh.
For fair brows, fill them in with a brow powder or pencil that's a shade darker than your natural shade. "No matter what the shape or the colour of your brows, there is always a way to define and enhance them," says Lisa Potter-Dixon, head make up artist for Benefit.
Brow tip:
Add a hint of brightness to your eyes with a pink or gold-toned highlighter pencil underneath your brow and blend. Lisa suggests, "Do one eye first so that you can see the difference, then match up the other side."
