Ageing skin and wrinkles are a fact of life, but there are things you can do to help reduce premature ageing.
Surprisingly, you don't have to be old to have ageing skin. Wrinkles, blotches and discolouration can be caused by many different factors. Boots specialist advisor Crian Wilson warns: "Ageing is influenced by environmental factors like sun exposure and pollution." Dr Nick Lowe adds that smoking, an unhealthy diet and rapid weight loss can all contribute to wrinkles.
According to Dr Lowe, 60% of wrinkles are the result of sun damage, so he recommends applying a broad spectrum sunscreen daily. "Apply to face, neck and upper chest. For pale skin use at least SPF30," he warns.
Crian and Dr Lowe both agree that certain factors such as poor diet, smoking and insufficient skin care can all add to skin ageing, so it's important to alter your lifestyle to avoid further skin damage.
Your skin regenerates itself while you are asleep, so give it a helping hand with a good night repair product for an extra skin boost.
Stress can take its toll on your skin, so help keep premature ageing and wrinkles at bay by practising some relaxation techniques for when you're feeling particularly anxious.
Ageing hands can be a big giveaway, so it's important to keep them moisturised and protected from the sun whenever possible. "Hands can be persistently exposed without you realising, especially when driving" Dr Lowe reveals.
