Make your hair your crowning glory, whatever the weather

  • Heat wave

  • Humidity

  • Windy weather

Want to keep your hair off your neck when the mercury rises but tired of the top knot? Here's how to create a chic, low-slung bun:

  • Prep your hair with a volumising mousse, 'It will give it body at the roots and add texture right through to the ends,' says JJ, Creative Stylist for Trevor Sorbie
  • Pull your hair into a tight ponytail at the nape of your neck and fasten with a band
  • Divide the ponytail into two sections, and then pull them into a bow, as if beginning to tie a shoe lace. Pin in place with a pretty hair accessory
Tip: Use the tail of a comb to pull out small pieces of hair to frame your face and create a softer look

Keep unruly humidity-hair in check with an all-over plait style:

  • Spritz hair with salt spray "this will give it texture'," says top hairstylist Lee Stafford
  • Divide into two sections with a centre parting
  • French plait each section: Start with a little hair at the front, weaving in more as you work back
  • When you reach the nape of your neck on both sides, combine the plaits together into a ponytail.
  • Combine this ponytail into a single plait down your back

Keep hair neat when the wind picks up with this twist on a classic ponytail:

  • Comb hair into a side parting. Taking a small strand at the front, twist it away from your face, "This look works like a French plait, except that you're twisting in the added sections of hair rather than plaiting them" says JJ, creative stylist for Trevor Sorbie
  • Pin and spritz each twist with a strong hair spray as you go, to help keep it secure and in place,' advises top stylist Lee
  • Finish by tying your hair in a ponytail, just behind your ear
Tip: For a more polished look, wrap and pin a piece of hair around the band, to hide it
