What is Type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a common condition which affects over three million people in the UK, but around 11 million are at increased risk of getting it. It occurs when your body doesn't produce enough insulin or the body doesn't react to insulin as it should. Type 2 diabetes is usually linked to your weight, age, ethnicity and family history of the condition. It can lead to serious long-term health problems.

What happens during the risk assessment?

Boots, in association with Diabetes UK, offer an in-store diabetes risk assessment. It's free, quick, easy and confidential. Our fully-trained pharmacy team member will ask you some questions about your health and lifestyle, as well as measure your waist size, weight and height. These will give an indication of your chances of developing Type 2 diabetes. Depending on your risk score and answers, we'll recommend ways to help reduce any risk and refer you to your GP as necessary. If you'd prefer, you can complete the risk assessment online
