Spring/summer trends 2013: get the look

This season's catwalk make up trends are bold and beautiful, so whether you're after a whole new image or just want to try something fun, we've got tips and products to help you achieve the look at home. We've picked three key trends that we can't wait to experiment with.

The bottom line

A pop of colour on the lower lash line is set to be a big trend this season, whether it's a subtle flash of dark green or electric blue you can dial this look up or down depending on the occasion.

Step one: Keep your upper eyelids simple and neutral, brightening the inner corners and under eye with an illuminating concealer. Add a brightening primer or neutral shadow with a round, soft brush for a flawless finish.

Step two: Take your coloured kohl pencil and hold the skin around the eye taught slightly for accurate application. Starting from the outside corner, gently add liner to the water line. For a more intense effect, bring the colour down on to the lower lash line also, close to the eyelashes.

Step three: Taking an eye shadow applicator or soft brush, gently blend out and smudge the coloured kohl liner for a softer effect. For a night on the town, why not add a stroke of glitter liner on the outside corner?

Step four: Keep eyelashes understated to keep the focus on the lower lashes. Add a defining, lengthening masacara to define the eyes and make them really pop!

White out

White eye shadow seems like scary trend to embrace, but it's all about how you wear it - even just a touch of white in the inner corner of your eye can instantly freshen the face and make you look wide awake. For this striking look from Moschino however, pair with a heavy brow and bright lip for a fashion forward effect that's bound to turn heads.

Step one: In order to shape the strokes of white, take a tapered eyeshadow brush for more control. Run your pigmented white shadow along the upper eye lid, lining the upper lash line. Add a small, upwards flick at the outside corner.

Step two: Run the same white eyeshadow under the lower lashes, joining the lines together at the inner corner, but leaving a straight flick at the outer corner. Use a white eyeliner on the water line to make the eyes appear larger.

Step three: Finish with a fluttery set of false eyelashes for extra drama. Trim the set of lashes to fit, apply the eye lash glue sparingly to the false lashes and wait up to one minute for the glue to become clear and tacky. Apply as close as possible to the upper lash line.

Red Haute

"Passionate power pouts" are huge this season, so don't be afraid to try a bright lip - all it takes is a little confidence! This pop art inspired look is a nod to strong women and ultimate femininity, so come on girls let's rock this trend!

Step one: Pair with a 'barely there' finish on the face by applying a BB cream and sticking with simple neutrals on the eyes. Start by tracing your natural lip line with a red lip liner, blending slightly inside the lip line

Step two: Take a red lip shade and apply with a lip brush for precise application. Take a white eye liner and apply outside the lip line in the cupids bow. This highlights your lip shape making them appear fuller.

Step three: Matte lips are in; gloss is out. There are plenty of great matte red shades in the world of beauty, but if you've used a lippy with a high shine finish, a great tip is to dab translucent, mattifying face powder onto the lip with an eye shadow applicator. This will also help your lippy to stay put for hours.
