From the 1st February 2010, you'll notice a change when you go into any Boots store that sells batteries.

There’ll be a waste battery collection bin, where you’ll be able to dispose of all your used batteries!*

You don’t have to do anything else other than bring your old batteries for us to recycle.

The batteries that we collect will be sent for proper treatment to ensure that as many of the chemicals and materials as possible can be recycled or disposed of safely.

Currently, much of this waste ends up in landfill where the harmful substances in some batteries can cause pollution and potentially be a hazard to health.

If you have other forms of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) that you’d like to dispose of, Boots are already part of a scheme to fund improvements to the national network of Household Recycling Centres, so that they can handle WEEE products.

You shouldn’t put batteries or WEEE in your dustbin and that’s why these items are now marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol.

To find the address of your nearest Household Recycling Centre, visit www.recycle-more.co.uk or call freephone 0800 915 9023.
