Damage to cuticles can allow bacteria to enter the body and cause infection.” Instead, push cuticles back with an orange stick and gently massage in a cuticle cream such as Urban Retreat Nourished Hand and Nail Cuticle Cream to prevent your cuticles from getting infected.

  •  “Always use a base coat as this will help to prevent nail staining,” recommends Leighton. Stop your nails from turning yellow underneath this seasons dark nail colours and give them an extra shine boost with Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Top and Base Coat.

  • To stop your hands from drying out over the winter months, Leighton recommends using a hand cream. “Apply a hand cream two to three times a day,” he says. This will stop your hands from feeling dry and scaly. Try Olay Total Effects Hand Treatment.

  •  "Massage your moisturiser, serums and oils into your skin." says Urban Retreat skincare expert Anastasia Achilleos, "This has instant benefits improving circulation, releasing slow moving fluids that cause puffiness and bring a real glow to the skin. Long term you are making huge anti aging steps for your skin by bringing oxygen to your tissue everyday, helping skin to firm and increasing elasticity collagen production. Releasing tension that can make the face look older from stress and by massaging lines and wrinkles with creams oils and serums you are helping to soften them."

  • She also recommends removing your cleanser with a warm face towel. "This ensures not only your skin feeling ultra fresh, tingling and clean but also that pollution, makeup and slight exfoliation take place from the natural friction of the cloth on your skin." The long term benefits include oxygen available in your blood rushing to the surface providing a glow and oxygenation to the skin which is great news for anti aging. "It's cheap and very effective." says Anastasia.

  • "Use Urban Retreat The Inhalessence in the sink mixed with water to increase both instant and long term benefits.

  • Getting wrinkles around your mouth? “The best way to prevent wrinkles in the lip region is by using an exfoliating scrub on the lips and around the lip region twice a week” says Skincare Guru to the stars, Ole Henriksen. “The stimulation achieved with the scrub will also help maintain the lips and the skin surrounding the lip region due to increased blood flow.” Apply firm pressure and massage for 2 minutes. Follow up with a lip moisturiser and your lips will better protected against those dreaded fine lines. Try Ole Henriksen Fresh Lips SPF15 which contains Beta Hydroxy Acids help to slough off excess cells, plus Anti-oxidants and rich Cocoa Butter which help to heal and nourish.

  •  The best way to get enviably smooth skin is to dry brush your whole body. “Dry brushing massage is the very best way to enhance the beauty of the skin on the body.” says Ole Henriksen. “When practiced 2-3 times weekly, the skin’s many metabolic processes are greatly heightened.  It provides a gentle internal massage which speeds up the elimination of toxic matters, while topically providing the skin with a luminous glow from the vigorous exfoliation.” Dry brush your skin just before you get in the shower and notice the difference almost instantly. Try Boots Detox Brush.

  • Slow down your cleansing routine! “Never rush through the cleansing routine, because was matters is that the active ingredients in the cleanser get activated and go to work on the skin,” says Ole.

  • Similarly, Lena Korres, from successful beauty brand Korres says, "It's a bit of a cliché, but never ever skip the whole cleansing routine before going to bed, no matter how tired you feel!"

  • Want to help your dry skin? “Avoid extremely warm water when activating or rinsing your cleanser off, as it will dehydrate the skin severely.  Luke warm water is ideal. Likewise avoid abrasive face cloths in cold weather.  Instead use your hands with long and smoothing strokes,” recommends Ole.

  • The golden rule for staying younger for longer in every expert’s eyes is using products with an SPF. “Always make sure your makeup has an SPF so your skin will stay unlined and even-toned for longer,” says leading make-up artist and industry expert Daniel Sandler. Try No.7 Intelligent Colour Foundation with SPF.

  • Taking care of your skin now will ensure you look better when you’re older. Daniel recommends using a non-irritating formula of make-up. “Mineral makeup takes care of the most sensitive of skins which means that for years to come you’ll be helping your complexion looking its best 24/7.”  Try Revlon Colorstay Mineral Foundation.
