Charlotte Tilbury is one of the world's most sought-after make-up artists. Here she talks exclusively to about her passion for make-up and creating her new make-up range, myface

Make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury is on the speed dial of the A-list including Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss and Demi Moore. She's created unforgettable looks for designers such as Louis Vuitton and Missoni, and styled some of the most iconic magazine covers of the decade. Charlotte has won dozens of awards, including the British Fashion Council’s ‘Creator of the Year’ award. And now she's launched her own range, myface, exclusive to Boots and

When did your love affair with make-up begin?

When I was 11 I met make-up artist Mary Greenwell and instantly knew I wanted to be a make-up artist. There was no turning back, I told my mum that same day what I wanted to be.

When did you first dream of creating your own range of make-up?

When I started working with colours and formulations every day under hot lights, and with all the demands of Milan, New York and London fashion weeks, I started to imagine my dream collection.

How is myface different from the make-up you were using?

I always thought “if only….” If only colours didn’t crease, shades didn’t fade, foundation covered but left a natural glow, if only lipstick stayed put… And now, through working with some great formulators, I have finally created the ultimate collection, one that I swear by, and that I’m happy to put my name to.

So you’re happy with the results?

I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into this range. I’ve always said that if I’m going to put my name to something, it had better be amazing and it is.

What’s the one thing women always ask you about make-up?

When people want my advice, it’s always to do with colour, not technique. Women are fed up of buying the wrong colours, and ending up with drawers full of pretty colours that do absolutely nothing for them. Myface makes the connection between skin tones and colour selection.

So is that the thinking behind myface?

I wanted a range that gave everyone that “celebrity glow” and would look as good at the end of the day as it did when you applied it. Myface aims to make bad make-up choices a thing of the past. The collection is divided into three simple shade categories for fair, medium and dark skin. Any shade within your skin tone category will work for you.

So how would you sum up your new range?

I want it to be easy. I want to help women avoid making mistakes by doing all the hard work for them, by finding the perfect colours for all skin tones. No longer will you have to suffer the indignity of trying to copy a look from a magazine, only to find that what made Kate Moss look fabulous, makes you look more drag than drop dead. Base, blusher and lip colour are sorted according to the three skin-tone families - there are three shades of base, three blush, and six glosses, and three lipsticks, with matching pencils.

Any product you particularly love?

Five of the eyeshadow trios contain ‘blingtones’. We wanted it to look like foil that has been stamped on your eyes. You can apply just a wash for a gorgeous subtle shimmer, or build it up for a foil-like look. I have found nothing else like it on the market. The results look polished, never cheap.

How Charlotte makes up the stars…

Charlotte has created plenty of A-list looks with her myface range. Here’s what she used on…

Keira Knightley - Charlotte defines Keira’s eyes with Myface High Definition Eyeliner in Brown, and smudges A Whole Latte Love Myface Eye Touch Eye Shadow Trio for a sexy, sultry look.

Kate Moss - Charlotte stains Kate’s lips with Myface Gigabite Lipstick in Downtown, and contours her cheeks with Myface Mymix R&B Rouge in Copa Choco Latta.

Kate Hudson - The Hollywood actress is a Medium, so Charlotte creates a strong lip look on her by applying Myface Gigabite Lipstick in Bleeding Love and lines her lips with Myface High Definition Lip Pencil in Wine.

How it works

- If you’re prone to sunburn, have pink undertones or are blonde/redhead with light eyes you’re FAIR.
- If you tend to tan rather than burn, have sallow undertones and your colouring is beige of golden you’re MEDIUM.
- If your skin doesn’t burn, has rich, warm brown tones and you have dark hair and eyes you’re a MED/DARK.
- Charlotte Tilbury’s myface range is available exclusively at Boots and from November.
