What inspired you to create the Good Works range?
There’s so much more toxic pollution around today that everyone is becoming conscious of looking after the planet and being more eco-aware. Plus I get so much pleasure and satisfaction from the way aromatherapy works for me that I want to share it.
Why are more women turning to a natural approach to beauty, in particular using aromatherapy?
People want simple, gentle solutions. Today, with more cases of skin irritation, and general poor health, we’re learning that preventative care is better than curative, and that it’s better to keep well rather than deal with being ill.
For those of us that are new to aromatherapy, how would you describe the benefits, and what would be a good introductory product?
The first thing is just to appreciate natural smells rather than cloying, over-synthetic ones. Start by using something containing lavender, which can be very effective in helping you relax. It soothes when you’re feeling stressed and, of course, smells lovely.
Cedarwood and patchouli are also fantastic for promoting relaxation and stress relief. In the Good Works range, the oil burner with Good Karma Oil, the Good Relaxing Bath Oil or the Pulse Point Relief are all designed to help you relax.
Is it true you never wear perfume because it can destroy the effects of aromatherapy products?
Yes. I get complimented on how I smell all the time and it’s only the bath oils I use. Essential oils, blended well, smell wonderful. But sometimes I spray my clothes and my hair with my usual fragrance, Sisley’s Eau de Campagne, as my hair is not as sensitive to synthetics as my skin.
What’s your ideal potion for revving up a sluggish, tired body?
Any products that contain geranium and citrus oils, such as lemon, help wake you up. Sometimes a hit of peppermint works, too. But in the end it really does depend on the quality of the essential oils, because poor-quality oils aren’t likely to have any effect.
What’s your must-have beauty ritual?
Nothing beats a bath, because you’re making time for yourself. I love to have an oil burner and essences with me at all times, so I can inhale good aromas wherever I happen to be. If I find that I’m feeling tired, I add geranium to the blend and then I feel energetic and revived once again.
