Kathy Phillips Shares her Skin Care Beauty Secrets

Kathy Phillips, beauty journalist and creator of This Works aromatherapy beauty products, shares her tips for looking great exclusively with boots.com.

1. Live healthily

We all know what that means. Beauty works from the inside out.

2. Prepare to party

I can’t get party-ready without a bath in This Works Energy Bank Bath Oil. The kick of geranium and ylang ylang gets me going and the lingering smell of patchouli helps it to double as scent. It always gets remarked on. In the bath I put my hair into a very high, tight ponytail. The steam gives it some root lift, which lasts for the whole evening.

3. Sort those spots

Lavender essential oil and tea tree oil dry up spots very quickly.

4. Get moving

Nothing makes you feel better than 12-15 minutes of really strenuous exercise. First and foremost it gets the heart rate up which is good for you and your metabolism. A burst of exercise helps to oxygenate the body and gives the face a healthy glow. Try jumping jacks, running on the spot, running with the dog or twenty lengths of the pool without a pause.

5. Blush it

If you don’t feel good, fake it. And there’s nothing like a touch of blusher to do this.

6. Oil up

A natural, high quality plant-based oil helps to moisturise the skin. I think This Works Skin Deep Dry Leg Oil is the ultimate in nourishment with its blend of high-grade essential oils combined with natural plant oils. Oil tends to mix with the skins’ own sebum and can penetrate more deeply than waxy creams which can sit on the surface of the skin.

7. Get zesty

I use lemon as a deodorant. I slice a lemon and rub one cut side under my arms then wait for about 20 minutes before showering. The acid cuts the smell and eventually minimises sweating. It really works and over time you need to do it less and less. But showering is extremely important as if you don’t shower, it smells rancid after a while.

This tip came from a Brazilian cleaner of mine who said it was an old Brazilian trick. Now I never have any deodorant stains on anything and I don’t smell. I've done this for about three years now. It also works for smelly feet.
