Information & Advice
Elle Macpherson is known simply as ‘The Body’ thanks to her enviable
figure. She is a mother of two boys, Flynn, 10, and Cy, 5, has an
international lingerie empire, Elle Macpherson Intimates, and is the
global brand spokesperson for Revlon. Here, she tells boots.com how, at
44, she still looks so good, and talks about her Body bath and body
What’s your best piece of beauty advice?
That beauty comes from within.
How do you look after yourself?
I believe in balance in all areas: practical/spiritual; family/work; internal/external. I practise yoga, and when I can I run, surf and ski. I also make sure I eat organic fair-trade food, because eating well and with a conscience is important to me.
I like my nails groomed, my hair clean and my skin glowing. I probably spend more time at the hairdresser’s (Josh Wood at realhair in Chelsea) than I’d like. But I find that if my skin and hair look good, then that’s enough.
What are the ‘can’t live without’ products on your bathroom shelf?
Bare Ultimate Moisture Body Butter from my Body collection (only available in store) Revlon Age Defying Make up and a good lip balm.
And in your make-up bag?
I don’t usually wear make-up in the day, but in the evening I sometimes wear Revlon black eyeliner and lip gloss.
What’s your current favourite body product?
I absolutely love the Bare Double Duty Cleanse & Scrub (only available in store) from my collection. It’s two steps in one so I feel cleansed and refreshed in half the time.
Do you have a favourite fragrance?
I’ve been wearing Vetiver by Guerlain (only available in store) for 30 years. My sons love my fresh lemony scent and say that they can smell their mummy.
Do you have a look you keep coming back to?
It’s always the same: natural during the day and black eyes at night.
Is there anything you feel you’ve yet to achieve?
I’m in a period of transition now. I’m moving more into business, building the Elle Macpherson brand. There’s still a lot to do.
Have you ever made a beauty faux pas?
I recently cut a fringe. The jury is out.
How much make-up do you own?
Fake tan or real thing?
I sometimes use my Gradual tan from my Glow collection (only available in store)
If you could only have one beauty item, what would that be?
Rosy cheeks look healthy, so some cream blush.
Why do you think women give themselves such a hard time with ageing and the way they look?
The truth is there are many kinds of beauty, most of which you won’t see in magazines.
What are your beauty routines?
In the morning I use Dr Hauschka cleanser and toner then moisturise with Dr Sebagh or Environ. In the evening I’ll take off make-up with Environ Eye Make-Up Remover, then repeat my morning routine.
What one piece of beauty advice would you give?
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. It’s the only way to keep skin soft, smooth and glowing.
How do you feel about lines and wrinkles?
I use Revlon Age Defying Makeup when I’m in front of the camera and it works wonders.
Where do you go to get pampered?
Being physically and spiritually fit is important to me. Spiritually, I meditate and pray and physically, I go to a great trainer. Australian James Duigan at Bodyism (www.bodyism.com) does everything from kickboxing to nutrition.
What are your favourite treatments?
I love massage, reflexology, manicures and pedicures, and also electro-stimulation sessions (in which heat or electricity are applied to the body) at The Luzmon clinic in Kensington. They’re great for circulation.
Do you ever have fat days?
Yes, but I embrace them as indications of stress, and I never weigh myself.
