Fast-track to fabulous this festive season with these easy upgrades for glamorous eyes and lips.

Calling all beauty fiends: it’s time to update your make-up repertoire! Out with the old, in with the new. Upgrade your style with these new must-try beauty looks and enjoy your most glamorous Christmas yet. Prepare to turn heads…

The New Metallic Smoky Eye

“This season is all about gilded, glamorous lids,” says make-up maven Val Garland, Creative Director for YSL Beaute and the woman responsible for Vogue’s dreamy cover make-up. The look now? ‘Glamour Goth’, says Val. “It’s a new take on the smoky eye; rich metallics mixed with charcoal to create a melange of colour around the eye.”

The new smoky eye upgrade: Ditch the standard issue greys and blacks in favour of gold, bronze, emerald, sapphire or lilac shimmer to create instant evening glamour, says Val. To get the look, we love the new YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres palettes – the 5 complementary shadows make whipping up a smouldering smoky eye oh-so easy.

Do it now: Snap up YSL Ombre 5 Lumiere Palette in Indian Pink. “Apply your darkest shadow to the outer corners of your eyes very close to your lash line and blend outwards. Sweep your lighter metallic shimmer as a wash from the inner corner to the centre of the lids,” says Val.

Glamour Goth Eye Essentials:

The Eyeshadows: YSL Ombre 5 Lumiere Palette in Indian Pink and Christian Dior 5-Colours Iridescent Compact in Moonlight have everything you need for the new smoky.

The Mascara: Lancôme Oscillation Mascara helps lend lashes a ‘falsie’-style flutter.

The Lips: Subtle lips showcase stand-out eyes. Try Chanel’s Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine SPF15 in Cancun, a barely-there pinky-nude.

The New Punctuated Pout

To make a sophisticated statement this festive season, think colour. “Leave no lip undressed!” says Val. For grown-up glamour, look for moisturising, long-lasting lipsticks – we like Val’s favourite range of Rouge Volupte lipsticks from YSL. “They’re ultra creamy and glide on with the feeling of a gloss but leave a great stain effect for longevity,” she says.

The new lip upgrade:  Be fearless when picking shades. “Intense brights are the key – think pink for pout punctuation: from crimson and magenta through to rioja burgundy,” says Val.

Do it now: “Apply straight from the bullet – use a lipstick that melts right into your lips so that your colour lasts longer,” says Val recommends teaming this look with a minimal face. “To make the most of a gorgeous ‘dressed’ pout, nothing looks more commanding than flawless skin, groomed brows, a little Vaseline on the eyelids and a flutter of mascara,” she says.

Punctuated Pout Must-haves:

The Lipstick: Estee Lauder Intense Electric Lip Crème in Fatale. YSL Rouge Volupte in Provocative Pink.

The Lip Prep: Buff and prime lips prior to applying your new bright shade with Urban Retreat Lip Service Kit.

Eyelid gleam: For gorgeous glossy lids, use a smidgen of Vaseline or Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream.

Flawless Skin Booster: YSL Top Secrets Radiance Brush helps boost radiance and brighten skin.
