How do I get a Boots Christmas Gift Tag?

Boots Christmas Gift Tags are available in larger Boots stores only, until 24th December. When you shop 3 for 2 you'll be given a tag, or you can just ask for one at the tills. You will get a Gift Tag free with every Boots.com order. One Gift Tag will send one video message.

What is a QR code? And where do I get a QR reader?

A QR code is a square information code, a bit like a barcode, but instead of identifying products it identifies and links to web sites. You scan it with your smart phone, but to do this you need a special app - a QR reader. There are plenty of free QR readers available to download.

Let's film your personal video message

Each Gift Tag has a unique QR code What's this?. You need to scan this with your phone in order to download the Boots Christmas App What's this? - which you will need to create your message.

What is a QR code? And where do I get a QR reader?

A QR code is a square information code, a bit like a barcode, but instead of identifying products it identifies and links to web sites. You scan it with your smart phone, but to do this you need a special app - a QR reader. There are plenty of free QR readers available to download.

Open your QR reader

1. You'll see a square on your phone's screen. Hold it about 10cm above the QR code on the tag so that the code fits into the square. Hold your phone flat and still for a few seconds while it scans the code.
2. This will take you to a link where you can download the Boots Christmas App.
3. Download the app (available to download until 24th Dec).
4. Open the app and select the 'Video Tags' option.
5. Press 'Scan to record'.
6. You now need to scan the QR code on the gift tag again so that it can link the tag to your phone - and your message!

So hold that phone steady - and scan!

Now get ready for your close-up!

1. Press the red button - and...action..!
2. Record your Christmas message. Try to keep it under 45 seconds long.
3. Press the red button again to stop filming.

Don't worry if you make a mistake, or just want to do it again, you can have as many tries as you like until you are happy with your message.

When you're happy press 'Use'

The video is now uploading - it might take up to 5 minutes, so time for a cuppa. Make sure your phone stays linked to wi-fi during this time.

Your video will appear in the 'My Videos' section of the app. But don't worry if you can't see it just yet, it can it take up to 20 minutes to appear.

Just remembered something you forgot to say in your message? It's still not too late to re-record it.

Finally, attach the Gift Tag to the present.

Your special someone will need this tag to access the message.

So even if you can't be with them in person, you can give them a Christmas to remember!

If you receive a Gift Tag video message...

If you've been sent a special Gift Tag video you can view it by either scanning the QR code with your smart phone, using a QR reader app What's this? or visit the unique web address printed on the tag.

To view the message on your phone:

1. Open your QR reader app.
2. Put the Gift Tag on a flat surface and hold your phone about 10cms away. Fit the tag into the box on your screen.
3. The phone will scan the tag automatically.

To view the message online:

Visit the web address on the tag. You will need to input your special password (printed under the QR code). This is to make sure that the message is for your eyes only.

Want to watch the message again?

You can watch your special message over and over again, and even share it to Facebook. If you don't have chance to see the message on Christmas day, don't worry it will still be there until the end of January.
