Information & Advice
After the early morning, the cleaning, cooking and entertaining, you want to be sure that your make up and hair stays put all the way through the festive celebrations. Whether you just want to enhance your natural beauty or go for full on festive glamour, we've got the tips to give you the confidence to shine on the big day, right through to New Year. After all, there's always room for one more Christmas angel!
Long-lasting, photo-flawless make up doesn't have to mean a heavy base. An illuminating BB cream paired with an anti-redness primer can give lightweight coverage that will help to even out the complexion for a more natural finish.
Lightly buff a mattifying face powder over the top of your base to keep shine at bay - a great tip is to keep a powder compact with a mirror handy, for quick touch-ups on the go.
For an understated, natural effect that looks totally effortless, soften eyeliner with a brush to blend with your eye shadow. Hold the eyelid taught and gently buff the pencil line until it's softly smudged. Rather than using a black eye liner, pair a brown, kohl pencil with a spot of light shimmer on the inner corners for eyes that look bright, clear and awake.
Christmas is an exciting time of year, why not amp up your daytime eyes with some individual lashes? Adding false lashes a few at a time gives you more control over where you want the volume. Try adding a few to the outer corners with tweezers, for a beautiful doe-eyed effect that still looks natural.
After all the yummy Christmas treats and drinks, you want your lippy to stay put. For a flawless shape, use a matching lip liner around the natural lip edge to stop the colour from bleeding. For a fuller pout that's totally kissable, add a dab of highlighter to the cupid's bow, as well as the middle of the bottom lip.
Deep shades of ruby-red are big this season and great for adding a vintage twist to the classic red lip. Adding a lipstick sealant over the top will help to keep lippy in place, even after the Christmas pud. Apply a light coating and allow to air-dry, resisting the urge to rub your lips together!
"Tousled" is definitely the look to go for if you're expecting to be rushing around as the hostess with the mostest. It's chic, stylish and any flyaways, or bits that come undone, look perfectly deliberate and won't leave you looking as stressed as you might feel!
Unlike a firm hold hairspray, a flexible hold will allow a bit more natural movement and bounce through the hair, whilst holding locks in place.
With a nod to old-school Hollywood glamour, an oval shaped red nail can be modernised with a mattifying topcoat and an easy half moon design. Start with a nude base and wait for it to dry completely before adding tip guides across the bottom of the nail, along the cuticles. Paint the entire nail in deep red, up to the edge of your nail guide. Remove the tip guide while the red polish is still wet for clean, crisp lines. Finish with a mattifying topcoat for chip resistant, elegant nails!
