What is CB12?

CB12 is a mouth rinse that can keep bad breath at bay for up to 12 hours. Read these frequently asked questions to find out more about bad breath and how CB12 can help CB12 mouth rinse .

Q. What is bad breath?

A. Bad breath, known as halitosis, is a term used to describe unpleasant odours from the mouth. The most common misconception is that it originates from the stomach, but in fact, it almost always originates in the oral cavity.

It develops when the bacteria coating the teeth, between the teeth and gums and on the tongue, combine with food and saliva in the mouth. When these bacteria break down food particles, unpleasant-smelling volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) sulphur gases are formed and these cause bad breath.

CB12 binds to the tissues in the oral cavity neutralising and preventing the formation of these substances that cause bad breath.

Q. What else can cause bad breath?

A. Other causes of bad breath may be:

  • Poor oral hygiene: If you have a good oral hygiene routine this can sometimes be enough to help prevent bad breath for short periods of time
  • Diet: Some diets may also cause bad breath, including crash dieting or a diet high in protein. These types of diet break down fat, producing chemicals called ketones which can be smelt on the breath
  • Strong flavoured foods: Eating foods such as garlic may cause the breath to smell unpleasant
  • Smoking
  • Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol
  • Illness: Occasionally, bad breath is the result of an infection or illness
  • Medication: Bad breath may sometimes be caused by taking certain kinds of medicines

Q. How can I tell if have bad breath?

A. It is often difficult to tell if you have bad breath. Other people may notice it first, but understandably may find it hard to tell you.

If you are not comfortable asking a close friend or family member to check your breath, some healthcare professionals recommend trying this very simple test. Simply lick the inside of your wrist and wait for the saliva to dry. If this smells unpleasant you are likely to have bad breath.

Q. What is the difference between CB12 and other mouth rinses?

A. Many oral rinses containing zinc are effective on bad breath to some extent by eliminating the hydrogen sulphide gas. However, the other two gases, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulphide, have the worst odour even in very small quantities, and, if these are not eliminated, then the bad breath will remain.

CB12 eliminates all three sulphur compounds (hydrogen sulphide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulphide) that cause bad breath.

Q. How can CB12 mouth rinse help?

A. CB12 will neutralise and prevent the gases which cause bad breath from forming in the mouth. It has been proven to last for up to 12 hours.

Q. What are the active ingredients in CB12?

A. CB12 contains a combination of zinc acetate and chlorhexidine in low concentrations, proven to neutralise and prevent the production of VSCs, which cause bad breath. It also contains sodium fluoride.

Q. Has CB12 been scientifically proven to work?

A. Studies have proved that CB12 is effective for at least 12 hours and its technology was superior against 18 different competitor products in eliminating the toxic VSC gases that cause bad breath. CB12's effect has been evaluated and documented in several studies using a specially designed gas chromatograph, an instrument capable of detecting sulphurous gases.

Q. Would brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste be enough to prevent bad breath?

A. No. Fluoride is very effective against cavities, but does not prevent bad breath. CB12 gets to the root of the problem by neutralising and eliminating the sulphur compounds that cause bad breath.

Q. Does chlorhexidine dicolour teeth and/or the tongue?

A. The concentration of chlorhexidine is very low in CB12, and therefore there's no risk for discolouration. However, it is true that high concentrations of chlorhexidine can discolour teeth and tongue.

Q. From what age can CB12 be used?

A. CB12 can be used from 12 years.

Q. How often should CB12 be used?

A. Rinse your mouth with about 10 ml of CB12 for 30 seconds to one minute, then spit out. As CB12 is long-lasting it only needs to be used once a day for 12 hour effectiveness, or morning and evening for 24-hour effectiveness.

Q. Can CB12 be used during pregnancy?
