Why do I need a travel health service for my employees?

As an employer, you have a legal duty of care to ensure your employees who are travelling overseas for business have been informed of the health risks for their trip, and take steps to protect against them.

As a responsible employer, to meet duty of care for employees travelling for business, you must:

  • Be able to demonstrate that you've accurately informed your employees of the latest disease risks for each trip they take
  • Provide, at the company's expense, any vaccinations and antimalarials suitable for the trip that the employee opts to receive
  • Perform a thorough risk assessment to check any vaccinations and/or antimalarials the employee opts to receive are suitable for them
  • Provide preventative advice for travel health disease risks
  • Keep an audit trail of what was recommended to and selected by the employee

A survey showed almost half of companies don't complete these risk assessments, which leaves them vulnerable to litigation should anything happen to their employees while they're away for the business. Our service can help you meet your duty of care.

Why should I pick the Boots Travel Health for Business Trips scheme?

The Boots Travel Health for Business Trips service covers all of your duty of care, and it's designed to be convenient for your employees and your business.

  • Appointments available in over 200 locations across the UK, including at evenings and weekends
  • Appointments available to book online or in store
  • Full risk assessment and personalised advice from our specially-trained Travel Health Pharmacists
  • Range of travel vaccinations and antimalarials, including yellow fever and prescription-only products
  • Up-to-date, clinically validated advice that is consistent in each store
  • Management information to provide a full audit trail and monitor your employees' use of the service
  • Free consultation and competitive rate on vaccinations and antimalarials, with the option of centralised billing
How much do the vaccinations and antimalarials cost?

Our specially-trained Travel Health Pharmacists will conduct a free comprehensive risk assessment tailored to each individual's trip and medical history to determine which vaccinations or antimalarials are suitable. Any vaccinations or antimalarials required will then be charged at market competitive rates: a full price list is available at Our pharmacists can also provide a free personalised Travel Health Plan with holistic advice to help keep your employee healthy while they're away.

How much will it cost per employee?

The total cost per employee will vary depending on their destination, the length of their trip, the time of year they are travelling and whether they have had any vaccinations in the past.

What are the payment options?

There are two options:

  • Pay monthly via central invoice
  • Your employees pay in store and will be provided with a receipt. You can then reimburse via your normal expenses procedure.
How can I control which of my employees use the service?

When you sign up to the service we will provide an electronic version of our authorisation form, which will be bespoke to your company. A representative from your company should complete and sign one of these forms for each individual eligible for company-funded travel vaccinations or antimalarials. The signed authorisation form must be presented in store with the traveller's personal identification in order for our pharmacist to provide the consultation and service.

To minimise the low risk of misuse, we advise that you do not publish or distribute your authorisation form. We suggest providing a paper copy or scan of a completed form to individuals who are eligible for company-funded travel health.

What do I need to do to set the service up?

Please contact us on 0115 959 1279 or via and we will send you an application form. If you choose to pay via monthly central billing, we will then perform a credit check. Once the credit check is complete and we have set you up on our systems (this usually takes up to 10 working days) we will contact you to provide a welcome pack, including your authorisation forms, and further details. You can then start distributing the authorisation forms.

What do my employees need to do?

Once your employee has received their completed and signed authorisation form, they can make an appointment in one of our 200 travel health pharmacies. They can check which vaccinations they are likely to need and book an appointment online at or by calling 0345 301 4219.

Your employees should take along a record of any previous vaccinations they've had, along with their medical history and details of any medications they're currently taking. We recommend wearing a loose fitting top on the day so they can comfortably roll up their sleeve to receive vaccinations.

How many locations is the service available in?

The service is available in over 180 Boots pharmacies across the UK, with more to come. A current location list is included in this pack.

Can you help me let colleagues know about the service?

Of course! We can provide posters in electronic or print format, and digital banners for you to place on your intranet site. We can also provide leaflets with further information about the Boots travel service if your employees need more information about what happens at the consultation.

What management information will I get?

Each month we will send you a summary of the colleagues who have used the service and the total value of the vaccinations/antimalarials they have received (if you pay via monthly invoice, this will be on your invoice). Due to medical data privacy, we cannot share with you which vaccinations or antimalarials they have received, but we will keep a full audit trail of this on our system.

I have a query with my invoice ? What should I do?

Please contact us on 0115 959 1279 or via and we will investigate your query.
