Ever wondered about the inspiration behind your favourite beauty product? We find out the innovative ingredients that make Boots brands so special.

Original Beauty Formula

What makes it great...
This indulgent skincare range uses Boots original 100-year-old recipes and uses only natural extracts to fragrance its products.

What are the ingredients?
Sweet smelling extracts like soothing lavender and geranium and calming rose oil are some of the ingredients used in Original Beauty Formula products. ‘It’s about having a simpler approach to beauty to create a more natural-smelling product which is softer and light on the skin,’ explains assistant manager for Boots natural brands, Catherine Baker.

The Bath Oil and Skin Balm contain rose oil, which has skin-soothing, and aroma therapeutic benefits, while bergamot in the Bath Foam and Overnight Skin Cream are renowned for their antiseptic and uplifting properties.

Botanics

What makes it great...
Inspired by nature, this plant-based beauty range has extracts in over 200 of its products authenticated by the Royal Botanics Gardens, Kew.

What are the ingredients?
The Sensitive Skin Care range uses an extract of sweet gale in the Sensitive Cleansing Mousse, which, explains Catherine, ‘is an unique plant indigenous to Scotland proven to have soothing, anti-blemish properties’.

Ingredients like horse chestnut in the Eye & Lip Correction Serum and marsh mallow plant root found in the Sensitive Skin Recovery Serum may help to improve poor circulation; protect against anti-ageing, soothe and hydrate the skin.

Time Delay

What makes it great...
Time Delay is a simple, effective and tailored anti-ageing skincare range that covers all aspects of anti-ageing; including Wrinkle Reduce and Mature Skin Repair.

‘All products on the Time Delay range have been rigorously tested for its performance, appearance and texture.’ explains Boots facial skincare assistant brand manager, Abigail Bouche.

What are the ingredients?
Ingredients like vitamin A in the Daily Brightening Cleansing Balm, vitamin C in the Wrinkle Reduce Daily Serum and ginkgo extract, have all been chosen specifically for their anti-ageing benefits. ‘The yeast extract used in the eye cream including Skin Restoring Eye Cream with SPF 15 help to reduce under eye bags and puffiness,’ advises Abigail.

Protect & Perfect

What makes it great...
This cult range had the beauty world in a frenzy when it launched its revolutionary Beauty Serum in 2007. A report on the BBC’s Horizon programme, which scientifically proved the serum improved skin’s texture and reduced fine lines, meant the product was a beauty sell-out.

What are the ingredients?
The Protect & Perfect range contains anti-ageing ingredients like peptides, white lupin extract and a unique anti-oxidant and skin-firming complex.

‘The Beauty Serum contains active ingredients, retinyl palmitate, peptides, and antioxidants,’ says Boots skincare scientist, Stewart Long. ‘It’s this combination of ingredients that help to boost collagen in skin and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.’
