Gold was a big trend on the catwalk this spring.  Whether you have pale, olive or black skintones, Boots.com have the tips on the best ways to get it right…

At this year’s spring/summer shows, lips, eyes and cheeks shimmered on the catwalk in gold.

Accents of gold emblazoned eyes at Missoni, while cheeks were sunkissed and lips iridescent. At DKNY, models had a more playful look with a soft wash of gold on lids and poker straight hair.

‘Gold tones add a touch of glamour to relaxed summer clothes, whatever your skin tone or age,’ says make-up artist Caroline Barnes.

Apply a flash of gold along your lash-line or dust shimmering powder over cheekbones for a subtle day look. For those who want an edgier look, line eyes with a chunky kohl pencil in gold, add a touch of lip gloss and smooth hair back into a sleek updo.

Rimmel Colour Loose Eyeshadow

We recommend

For pale skin tones
Make the most of your cool complexion with icy golds dabbed in the inner eye corners to revitalise your face. For subtle shimmer, try Rimmel Colour Loose Eyeshadow in Antique (available instore) and team with a clear lip gloss for the perfect pout.

For olive/Asian skin tones
Darker, burnished golds look great on you, and are perfect for brushing along lash-lines or over eyelids. Try Max Factor Earth Spirits Eye Shadow in Inca Bronze (available instore), a sheer powder that can be built up for a dramatic effect, or dusted over temples and cheekbones.

Myface Eye Touch Eye Shadow For black skin tones
The richer the colour, the better it is for your skin. Gild your eyes with golden russets such as Myface Eye Touch Eye Shadow in Band of Gold, a trio of metallic golds. Dust over lids and build up drama with a flick of shimmer under eyes. Slick on Clinique High Impact SPF15 Lipstick in Metallic Sand for glitterati glamour.

Insider trick of the trade
If full-on metallics are still too glitzy, look for your favourite colours with a touch of shimmer flecked through them, it will add richness without feeling too shiny.
