Jenna Williams, 24, from Edinburgh, with mum Hilary, 51
‘I love this photo of Mum and me snoozing on the sofa. It was taken in the late ’80s and it reminds me of how utterly loving my childhood was. We’ve been through so much together, not least her being diagnosed with a rare tumour behind her pancreas seven years ago. Although Mum has been given the all-clear now, it has helped us both realise how short life is and how important the people you love are.’

‘We’ll be having a day of shopping, when I plan to treat her to her favourite beauty goodies and, afterwards, gin cocktails. All the things she loves.’
Vanessa Ip, 32, from London, with her mum, Elizabeth Lau, 59
‘Mum was 58 when she completed her first degree in Chinese medicine in 2007. She’s now doing her Masters degree and is due to graduate on her 60th birthday and I’m so proud of her. She had leukaemia when I was seven, so we’re both very aware of how precious life is. Mum still has the biggest laugh in the room.’

‘I’ll be flying to Hong Kong, where Mum lives. We haven’t seen each other for a year, so we’ll spend quality time together and do some shopping.’
Erin Woodward, 27, from London, with mum Ellen, 64
‘The year my mum turned 60 we decided to go travelling together for four months through Asia. She was so brave: she slept in a tent for 21 days straight, tightroped across a ravine and white-water rafted. When I got sick in India, there was nothing nicer than knowing I had my mum with me. I’m just so glad that I was able to see the world, not just through my own eyes, but her eyes, too.’

‘We’ll soon be trekking to Everest base camp together, so her flight to Nepal is on me. Plus, I’ve got her some travel-sized beauty treats.’
April Tapping, 25, from Derbyshire, with mum Wendy, 51, and sister Penny, 22
‘My dad took this picture when we were on holiday in the Algarve in 1987. My parents divorced seven years later so it’s nice to be reminded of a time when we were one big happy family. Mum and I have always confided in each other. I was old enough to help support her when she and Dad split up, and it brought us closer together.’
This Mother’s Day
‘I’ll be treating Mum to a pampering beauty gift set from Clinique and then take her and my grandma out for lunch.’
