International make-up artist for Estee Lauder, Jahi Ireland, gives expert make-up tips and advice to one Boots Health & Beauty reader who wants a different look…

‘I want a new look’

Ana Arroyave, 41, is separated with three children. She lives in Oxford and works in educational social work.

The problem
‘I’ve been wearing the same make-up for years. I really don’t have the confidence to experiment. But my birthday is coming up and I’d love to try something different.’

How Jahi got the look

  • ‘For daytime, Ana should use eyeliner, mascara and a light foundation.’
  • ‘If she isn’t confident using foundation, a tinted moisturiser, such as No7 Dual Protection Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 15, could do the trick. It’s easy to apply, hydrates the skin and gives it a warming hint of colour.’
  • ‘Ana could also treat herself to earthy tones such as Estée Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quads in Truffle, so she can experiment and create a look to take her from day to night.’

The verdict

‘Jahi has inspired me. I’ve been putting more thought into my make-up and have been more adventurous in the evenings by trying shimmery blue eyeshadow. I’ve bought some make-up brushes and I love the results. My next step is to invest in a new colour for spring.’

Jahi’s make-up tips

  • Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying too much at once – change your look gradually and you will be able to adapt it easily.
  • Trying darker shades of the colours you usually wear on your eyes or more intense shades of your favourite lip colour is a gentle way to leave your comfort zone.
  • The right tools will make all the difference, using a brush even to apply foundation will give a more seamless finish.
