We take a look at the natural ingredients in Boots Extracts products and find out how they make the range so indulgent with Mark Johnson, Boots Extracts formulation technologist...

There are 33 products in the Boots Extracts range, including body butters, body washes, scrubs, lip balms and bath creams. From succulent mango to aromatic cocoa butter, the natural ingredients in Extracts are sourced from far and wide to refresh, revitalise and moisturise.

Cocoa butter

Produced in the Dominican Republic, our Fairtrade and Organic cocoa butter is used in most of the body butters in the Boots Extracts range. Derived from the seeds of the theobroma cacao plant, it melts onto the skin with a distinctive, chocolate aroma. The butter has been used for centuries to protect skin as well as reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Shea butter

The Fairtrade Organic Shea Butter we use comes from West Africa. The shea nuts are gathered, ground and processed by a local women's co-operative to form butter. The women use it as a skin moisturiser as it has nourishing and conditioning properties which make it perfect for body butters, lip balms and body washes.

Bergamot oil

The bergamot orange is an inedible sour fruit but its peel is the source of a cooling, refreshing and sweet essential oil. The distinctive fragrance is used in Earl Grey tea and is known to relieve and soothe everyday stress and tension. Our organic bergamot oil is grown in the Calabria region of Italy.

Coconut oil

Used in traditional remedies in Asia, coconut oil has excellent skin-softening properties. Made from the flesh of the fruit, it melts onto the skin at room temperature, leaving it soft and smooth.

Mango extract

Our Mango Extract is taken from Fairtrade Mango Fruit. The fruit, from Burkina Faso in Africa, contains antioxidants which help to protect the skin from the signs of ageing. Natural sugars from the mango also help to moisturise the skin.

Olive oil

The natural properties of olive oil have been used for centuries to nourish hair and skin. The Boots Extracts range uses high quality, Fairtrade virgin olive oil, produced in Palestine, to retain skin's moisture, keeping it smooth and supple.

Brazil nut oil

Our Organic and Fairtrade Brazil Nut Oil comes from a highly nutritive fruit. Rich in oleic acids, vitamins and selenium, it retains the skins barrier function and helps to moisturise, leaving skin nourished.

Rosehip seed oil

One of the more unusual ingredients, this oil, from Chile, is full of omega fatty acids which helps restore the moisture of the skin.
