Burt and Roxanne – the Burt's Bees story

It all started more than 25 years ago with beekeeper Burt Shavitz, artist Roxanne Quimby and a stockpile of beeswax. Burt had been selling his honey from the back of his truck at weekends, stockpiling the excess beeswax in the honey house, just in case it came in handy.

It wasn't until a chance encounter with hitchhiking budding entrepreneur Roxanne Quimby, in Maine, US, they discovered just how handy it could be. With Roxanne's art skills, they created a booming candle business that went from making $200 at local markets to more than $1.5 million in just five years.

How Burt and Roxanne made Burt's Bees different?

Following their candle success, Burt and Roxanne branched out to launch beauty products, selling their first beeswax lip balms way back in 1991.
