Information & Advice
The nude make up look is a simple, but stunning trend to wear this summer and amazingly, it's easy for you to achieve yourself. Amy Sachon – make up artist for Barry M explains: "You don't need to be a trained make up artist to apply the nude make up trend. It's a great look for the summer and as you can set the look in the morning, you don't need to pack lots of products into your handbag, just a few items to maintain your nude make up look through the day. It's a look that suits everyone and is such an adaptable and versatile trend."
Amy talks us through how to achieve the nude make up look feature-by-feature:
"To get the nude make up look, first prep your face by cleansing it. Applying this look onto a dirty face shows!" says Amy. After a thorough cleansing, pick a foundation that gives a creamy, dewy finish, or a tinted moisturiser that matches your skin tone exactly.
The lighter base will give this nude make up look a summer feel. Leave the matt foundations until autumn.
Amy explains how to apply the base: "To apply your foundation, dab onto your nose, cheeks and forehead and blend down. Seal this base with a translucent powder."
This application technique will give your skin the flawless finish that goes along with the nude make up trend and will provide a perfect canvas for your cheek, lip and eye colour.
To get gorgeous glowing cheeks, apply a peach or slightly orange-coloured bronzer for a 2010 take on the nude make up look. But, as Amy explains, only apply where the sun would naturally hit your face; "The top of your nose, your forehead, cheekbones and chin."
Amy offers a great insider tip to get the gorgeous nude make up perfect skin sheen. "Apply body shimmer in a natural colour that matches your skin tone to your cheekbones and chest. This is good for 40-plus aged skins, as it can give the illusion of making your skin appear younger."
Finally, sweep on an orangey-coloured blusher to the apples of your cheeks and blend.
For luscious-looking nude lips, Amy advises: "Always prep your lips first with Vaseline or a similar product to create an even base that looks smooth."
Then, for an evening look for lips, Amy advises applying a lip liner one shade darker than a nude shade. Applying a lip liner will help to stop the lip colour bleeding. Then apply a nude lipstick – one with a high gloss finish would work well with the nude make up look – with a brush and smudge it, but ensure you stay within the line. Nude doesn't mean you can be slapdash. She continues, "Then, apply a clear gloss on top to give the nude make up look a summer vibe."
For day, a sweep of slightly shimmery lip gloss or high gloss lip colour in a nude, clear or beige shade will work wonderfully. The gloss gives the nude make up look a lift, while still being bang-on-trend.
For 2010, the nude make up look has a shine or shimmer and the eyes are no exception.
"Look at using gold or brown colours with a shimmer on the eyes", Amy explains.
"Apply the eye colour to the lid, but don't go above the socket. Then, blend with your finger for a slightly undone look. You can then leave it at that stage, or, for extra sparkle apply a metallic – not matt – colour over the top."
Amy reveals: "A make up artists trick is to apply a lighter colour into the inside corner of the eye lid. This can give the illusion of eyes looking wider and further apart. For the nude make up look, apply a gold eye shadow on the inside corners of the eye lid."
Then, lightly sweep on a feathered line of brown kohl pencil and smudge, before swooshing on a coat of brown mascara, or if you already have dark eyelashes, clear mascara.
To nail the nude make up look for your talons, Amy says the hottest colours are browns and beiges. She explains how to get the nude make up trend for your nails to complete the look.
"Apply a basecoat, then two layers of a mushroom colour. Then apply a topcoat for a perfect finish to your nails."
She adds: "Nails should be square with round edges for Spring/ Summer 2010."
