Liquid eyeliner can be the perfect way to achieve a brand new look, add definition, drama and shape to your eyes, make them look bigger, smaller, wider, you name it. Liquid eyeliner can be very tricky to apply, but if done correctly, it can accentuate and intensify the colour of your eyes, bringing your whole face to life.
The skin on the eyelids has a variation in pigment and so they are usually a different colour to the rest of your face. Start by using a base such as No7 Smoothing and Brightening Eye Base, which evens out skin, colour and provides an ideal base in which to apply eye shadow and liner.
A steady hand is the best tool you can have when it comes to applying liquid liner. It is a good idea to rest your elbow on a solid, flat surface to minimise the chance of your eyeliner going wrong.
Remember a thicker line will add drama to the eye (think Amy Winehouse or Brigitte Bardot), and a thin line will accentuate and frame it.
Do not use the point of the brush, instead lie the brush fairly flat against your lid. Sweep the brush along your eye in a horizontal, fluid movement. You may find it easier to draw the outline of the liner first then fill it in, or gradually build it up.
Apply from the inside of your eye, moving outwards. It is important to get the liner as close to your lashes as possible as gaps can look rather unsightly!
Wait until your liner is dry to curl your lashes and apply mascara as you risk smudging the liner across your lids. Liquid liner tends to looks best without much eyeshadow as this can make you look 'over-done'. A neutral shade such as No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow in Wheatsheaf is ideal.
If you make a mistake, dip a cotton wool bud in some eye make up remover and gently neaten up the liner.
