Who needs surgery when you can banish lines, plump lips, lift the face and cheat the clock with a little make-up trickery? Turn back time with six of the best make-up Nip/Tuck tips.

1) Perk up that pout!

Lips thin naturally with age, so plumper-looking equals younger-looking.

The cheat: “For fuller-looking lips, use a lip base or concealer to ‘white out’ the lips, then line the whole lip just outside your natural lip line,” says Ruby Hammer who likes Benefit’s D’finer D’liner. Next, “apply an iridescent or shimmery gloss to the middle of your lower lip and to the cupid’s bow of your upper lip,” before finishing with an all-over slick of your favourite gloss, says Ruby.

2) Turbo charge your radiance

As we age, cell turnover slows and we lose our natural radiance.

The cheat: Sheer illuminating liquid bases. “They give skin a wonderful moist, glowing look which immediately revs up a tired-looking complexion,” says Urban Retreat make-up guru Daniel Sandler. A blusher re-think may shave years off your appearance, too. Avoid ageing matte textures, “and try crème or fluid formulas that keep skin looking young,” recommends Daniel.

3) Chisel Those Cheekbones

Weight-gain and ageing can see those once-taut cheekbones disappear.

The cheat: “Sculpting,” says Ruby. “Use a brush to apply a light, sheen-free, colour in a crescent-shape from the nose to the side of the eye. Then use a darker, taupe colour or dark blush underneath the cheek bone. Finally, blend in your normal powder blush. Together the three shades create a defined, sculpted cheekbone.”

4) Banish Flaws and Fine Lines

A fact of life, fine lines and large pores are an ageing skin giveaway.

The cheat: make-up primers. “Silicone face primers are basically cosmetic pollyfillers for wrinkles, filling in lines to give skin a smooth, flawless appearance,” says Daniel Sandler. His turn-back-time tip?  “I mix primer with foundation, apply it to the entire face and then use the primer over specific lines to really knock years off.”

5) Unveil Youthful Eyes

Eyes lose their definition with age, skin thins and whites lose their brightness.

The cheat: eye drops. “I'm a big fan; they make the white of the eyes look fresh, clean, bright and healthy” says Ruby.  For an extra eye boost, “Brush your brows upwards to create a lifted effect and add a touch of gold or off-white in the inner eye corner to catch the light and open up the eyes,” advises Ruby.

6) Look Lifted

Everything gone south? As collagen and elastin degrade, skin looks less perky.

The cheat: A professional eyebrow shape – the perfect ‘arch’ can help cheat a lift. “It instantly creates the lifting effect that makes the face look younger,” says brow guru Shavata who trains her staff to create the perfect arch on all their clients. After that, it’s all about maintaining the shape at home.
