How to do a textured fishtail braid video transcript

Today I'm going to show you how to create a gorgeous power plait using a really easy fishtail braid. Personally, I find with classic hairstyles, if I put my own twist on it I feel reinvented and like I've just stepped out of a stylist's chair.

Firstly I've prepared my hair by using volumising shampoo and conditioner; this just really helps before plaiting my hair. Secondly I'm going to use a 3D volumiser spray and apply it all over, expect for my roots. You really need this just to get the good volume in there, a bit of texture and a bit of grip.

So now I'm going to show you how to do the fishtail braid; firstly you need to bring all of your hair round to the side you choose and split it into two even sections. Make sure you have a really firm grip on both sections.

To start the braid you need to take a section, cross it over to the other side -keep a firm grip, and then repeat. At first this might not seem easy but, believe me, once you get to the mid-way it's a lot easier.

Remember, don't hold it too tightly and to take big sections, as you want that texture and volume going through the plait.

So now you can see, as I'm getting further down and into the mid-lengths it's getting much easier and the plaits starting to take form. Remember though; please don't hold it too tightly otherwise the plait won't look the same, and remember to do it as big chunks over and over. You just keep repeating, taking one section to the next.

So now I'm coming to the end of the plait, I'm just going to keep going with those strands, over and over until the hair starts to feel like it's getting a bit thin and there's not much hair left. Once you get there, grab an elastic - tie it round but don't do it too tightly as you are going to want to pull it down a tiny bit to make it easier for you when you want to pull out the plait.

So going from the top section you're going to just pull section by section to give you that textured plait that you are looking for.

And that's how I do a power plait.
