Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup is for relief of the symptoms of coughs and colds. Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup contains liquorice ipecacuanha and squill which belong to a group of medicines known as expectorants. They help remove phlegm in people with chesty coughs and colds.
You must be at least 16 years old to purchase this product.
How to use
Take the mixture by mouth, sipping slowly for best effect.
Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours if required.
Do not give to children under 12 years old unless your doctor tells you to.
Hazards and Cautions
Before you use this medicine
Do not use the medicine if you have:
An allergy to any of the ingredients listed.
An allergy to colophony (pine resin) which is contained in some cosmetic products e.g. lipsticks and eye shadows.
Any type of heart complaint
Or are under 12 years.
Talk to your doctor if you are talking
Carbenoxolone for a stomach ulcer
Medicines which help remove fluids from the body e.g water tablets)
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using if you are pregnant, might be pregnant or are breast feeding.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup can have side effects, although these don't affect everyone.
Possible side effects are:
Allergic reactions such as dermatitis, skin rash, flushing and itchy lumps
Feeling sick or being sick
Higher sodium salt and water levels within the body
Unbalanced potassium and sodium levels may produce side effects of high blood pressure, water retention and irregular heartbeat.
If you notice these of any other side effect not included above, stop use and tell your doctor or pharmacist. They will tell you what to do.
If you accidently take too much see a doctor straight away, Take the pack with you and show which medicine you have swallowed
Do not use after the expiry date
Return any unused medicine to the pharmacy for disposal.
If symptoms persist consult your doctor.

Some deposits may form on storage. This is normal and can be mixed by shaking.

Ethanol, Sucrose. Alcohol 2.9 vol%. Sucrose 2.3g per 5ml
Important ingredient information
Contains 2.3g of sucrose per 5ml dose. To be taken into account in people with diabetes. If you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine
It also contains 2.7% vol ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 214mg per 10ml dose, equivalent to 6ml beer, or 2.2ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in children, pregnant women and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
